Post subject:  Fly Boys Movie

There is a new movie out this Friday about WWI air combat called Fly Boys. I have seen the trailers on TV. It looks real good and realistic. :D I am guessing the story line that the movie is about American pilots flying for the French early in the war. The uniforms look like French. The planes look good in what was shown. Does anyone else know more about the movie or plan to see it like me? :) Or should I save my money for the video? :)

Regards,
Pappy

I give up on the movie. You have convinced me it is not realistic. I think they were Nueport 17's you saw. Could that be the planes you saw?
I don't think I will even rent the video :)

Hydrogen isnt really all that explosive unless it's under pressure ( the Hindenburg burned more from it's doped coating than the hydrogen gas ) but the impact with the envelope would have ripped the wire and fabric plane to bits, the fusalage probobly would have popped through but that's all. I expect Flyboys will be the ariel version of the Pearl Harbor flick from a few yaers ago.

show me some :-)
Hydrogen burns very rapidly like gunpowder, and like gunpowder it needs to be pressurised or restricted to get very explosive.

no no no hydrogen doesn't burn, it explodes. haven't u ever flashed some in a test tube or a glass? its loud and explodes in a quick flash. never seen hydrogen burn like gunpowder traces.

the LZ 129 Hindenburg hydrogen blimp took only bout 30 seconds to burn. and bellieve me there was a huge amount of hydrogen in there.

Burn yes, not explode. If Hydro were THAT explosive the blast would have been catastrophic. Seen the film clip many times, huge burning ( NOT exploding ) fireball rises into the sky as the Zep slowly crashes to the ground. No blast, no boom in fact most of the people on board survived that disaster, especially the ones that didnt jump out.

the reason most survived is because the ship exploded the top rear section where only few people existed. also hydrogen has the tendancy to travel and concentrate as high as possible so it was near the roof. this minimized casualties. secondly im not saying hydrogen is that explosive. just more vigirous than other fuels.
