I concur with this statement, especially during an Indiana winter.

SO will FA run on a win 10 machine without jumping through hoops?

Here is one of our previous threads: http://jkpeterson.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2254&hilit=windows+10

I run FA on Windows ME still, and today is my first day using a Win10 machine (wife's HP w/ Win7 just crapped out).

There are several threads over at SimHQ forum that address FA on Win10.

If you decide to get back into FA, be sure to check out my website at: http://myplace.frontier.com/~usnraptor/

I have built several campaigns in the last few years; however, they are built using the usnraptor playset.

In many ways I still wish I had WinMe, I never had the problems others seemed to have.

I will be testing FA on Win10 this week and give you a heads up on what I find but I believe its doable with less effort than Win7...

If someone wants to write out a "How To" guide, I'll gladly host it on my site.

In unrelated news, some butthead editted the FA wiki page, removing our links and the additions to the material we made. Pisses me off!

Windows 10 was extremely simple. I just installed, I think I ran it to XP Mode (wrote that in one of the other threads), and then just played. It was easier on W10 than it was on W98SE once upon a time :)

FA runs good on Win10 without the color startup patch.
I believe others have reported this.

What's the "color startup patch"? I'm very curious, I never heard of this.

Interesting - maybe that would have made my life easier on W7 :)

Well glad W10 works well.

The biggest issue I have with running FA on Win10 is that it doesn't maintain the original resolution size and will stretch across my monitor.

That isn't the operating system. That is due to the game not running in a window. That is a game limitation. It was built off of DOS based games at the very beginning and no on even knew what a window was then... You can change your monitor setup manually to have a different display ratio so it doesn't stretch as much.
