The AIM-120C is a multi-variant missile. There is the C-5, C-6, and now the C-7. I read that the C-6 is current production so that means they are still using C-5s. What are the noteable differences in the C-5 and onward? It says the C-7 will have a longer range but how much longer?

I read the detail on the subvariants in Janes AIr Launched Weapons last year, but I dont have the details right now...

As far as I know, the C-5 has the clipped wings and slightly longer range onver the previous versions due to reduced electronics allowed storage of more fuel...

IIRC the C-6 has the new 'jelled' rocket fuel for longer burn and a smaller, but more lethal warhead...

I dont remember what the C-7 will have, but the C-9 is suppossed to ahve nearly double the range of the C-5, but as to how they are going to do that I dont know...

ACIG AIM-120 post is more or less people talking about stuff that isn't technical really with details. It's just news releases and "oh this has this improvement" but no details.

perhaps the 7 will have the booste-glide motor we talked about before.

Was also just reading that HARM has a lofted trjectory in at least 1 mode and that in SP mode it locks on and launches itself!!! lolol

Yes the self launch mode is an older mode, so the SEAD pilot can concentrate on baiting and then outmaneuvering the SAM lauched by the site...

The missile fires itself when its within the best range/height envelope...
