kinda cool,

I was reading a neat article the other day explaining how 6 Su-30MKI Flankers from the Indian Air Force visited RAF Waddington on June 28. The Indian Air Force almost sent its Mirages to the excersise due to the sensitive technology surrounding the N011M Bars Radar, it was so concerned to the point that the pilots didn't use the aircrafts radar during the excersie. ANYWAYS it seems the U.S.A. knew the SU-30MKIs were coming and had a RC-135U Combat Sent stationed at RAF Mildenhall a week earlier, is it a coincidence that a ELINT recon aircraft just happened to be in the area? Even though the IAF pilots didn't have there radars on, they could have been on stand-by mode which would radiate normally.

Is it possible this was an actual sortie for the combat sent to learn more about the Bars radar frequencies or...??? Is that even legal lol?

Well first off Elint aircraft are always around such events. Sometimes for Elint training and sometimes to look for updates to already catalogued equipment.
The AF has had at leaste 3 N011 RADARs for quite some time. Some were dissassembled at WRAFB and at leaste one was installed on board an Amourous Angie aircraft for evals.

How were these acquired?

How significant are the differences between the N001 of the Su-27 and the Su-30MKI's N011M? I'm sure eavesdropping on a later generation radar would be worthwhile.

I have no idea what differances there are right now but yeah older systems get software updates too, usually with regards to new target recognition codes. Early F-15 RADARs had so many air-to-air target upgrades they had to dump all the air-to-ground software just to have room! AG software was eventually put back in as memory modules improved in size and capabilities. I'm sure the spooks are every bit as interested in older upgrades as they are in brand new systems.
