I would also wager that in their secret heart, even China's happy - for now - that the US is in the South: it keeps the North in check from doing something stupid. I'm sure that'll change after reunification, though.

What (sorta, but not really) surprises me, is that out of everyone around, only Japan is very against a reunified Korea...

Japan is against it because a reunified Korea will become an economic powerhouse and a stronger competitor to them...

And if the reunified Korea actually ended up controlled by the North it would be a political disaster for them as well...

China would be all for reunification, probably favor the south so they would have a larger market for their goods.

It was artifically played up by US media... The size of the protests were tiny...

Back in the 1980s though they had huge demonstrations against their own gov and against the US...
