Scramble on the Web has a relatively recent order of battle at http://www.scramble.nl/ru.htm.

Aviation Week had a Su-27IB on its cover last week and said it is "apparently edging closer to service" but they basically dwelt on more distant Russian projects like the PAK-FA which is now the Su-47 with conventional wings. It looks like a scaled-up twin engine JSF.

They couldn't make anything unique if they had to.

It was a glorified Eurofighter design.

Uhhh the Su-47 and MiG 1.44 both were very unique. Not copies of any aircraft at all. The "failure" of the 1.44 was lack of $, not a problem of the design.

MiG-21 = starfighter wannabe
MiG-25 = F-108 or F-109 or was it 107 design
MiG-29 = Whatever it is it sucks
Su-27 = Glorified MiG-29 which means whatever it is it sucks

Well, it's cool- cause they haven't shot down any American planes with it.

North American Rockwell claimed the Russians developed their MiG-25 interceptor from stolen designs of an improved version of the A-5 Vigilante...

The MiG-29 was indeed claimed to be developed from stolen Sukuoi designs for their original SU-27, and released by MiG to the Soviet airforce prior to the finalized version fo the Flanker.

The SU-25 Frogfoot was claimed to be an enhanced version of the Northrop A-9, since US intelligence verified the designs were stolen by the KGB...

Well the MiG-29 and Su-27 connection would explain why the 2 aircraft have simular manverbility.

That is true big. But you must look at the aircrafs combat record, what counties flew them, whats was the state of he fleets, what were the odds. As well as if it was BVR combat the MiG-29 had a huge disadvantage.

There isn't much BVR combat because everything must be visually identified as hostile so thats why all US aircraft are made with the ability to operate in a dogfight as efficiently as if it were lobbing AIM-120s from 40 miles away. That is key. Doesn't matter how agile a plane is, if it can't operate in both BVR and close quarters it isn't worth shit. I hate when they say the countries and all that. Air Forces are highly capable pilots, doesn't matter what country. Iraqi Air Force pilots were no joe schmoes and they knew how to use their aircraft, after all they fought Iran for 8 years and used them against Kuwait. To become a pilot you don't just show up and say "I want to be a pilot." You still need to go through training and all sorts of things.
