Watching the History Channel on the F-15 and an F-15 had a mid-air collision and went into a spin. Pilot regained control and landed it with only 1 WING! No joke the pictures this wing is torn off. |

If you are talking about the Israeli one then yes, we've seen this already. And yes it was missing one entire wing. |

I'm not aware of any incident other than the Isreali accident when the F-15 had a mid-air with and A-4 Skyhawk. |

It was on the History Channel the other night on a show called: The F-15 Eagle. The segment was just before they describe the F-15C and F-15E in ODS. http://www.historychannel.com/modernmarvels/ Then Click Episode Archive -> The F-15 The F-15 (Modern Marvels) Aired on Friday, April 30 Built to put U.S. pilots back in charge of the skies, the F-15 Eagle proved its superiority in Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. In a dogfight, it can maneuver against the toughest fighters and climb to Mt. Everest's height in 60 seconds. One of the toughest planes in the world, one fortunate F-15 pilot flew back to base after losing a wing! Featuring interviews with Operation Iraqi Freedom pilots and footage that puts the viewer right in the cockpit of the world's greatest fighter aircraft. TV G It was American though, not Israeli in this segment. |

what makes you think it was American? It obviously didnt happen during ODS. If you actually SAW the stars and bars on the plane while it was missing a wing, then I believe you. Otherwise it just happened the one time to the Isreali plane. They switch clips in and out all the time to "tell a story" ("never let the facts get in the way of a good story" has been an alleged axiom of the press for ages). |

How about it landed at an American base, the pilot was American, it was over America, and the plane was American. I've never known the History Channel to let the story take precendence over the facts. This isn't CNN you know. |

The History Channel repeats stuff constantly. If I remembered the name of the pilot that'd be of help but he did an interview. Maybe there are credits somewhere. |

I tried to post this response yesterday... but the board would not cooperate... OK here it goes... Sorry Cent, I saw that episode on the History Channel also (twice, infact) and it was indeed a Israeli F-15 pilot... He was doing ACM training and collided with an Israeli A-4 Skyhawk... Went into a heavy spin, could not recover so he went to full power and the aircraft stabilized... He could not see the damage and the lost wing due to fuel spray from the ruptured fuel lines... He found if he maintained high speed that he could control the F-15 reasonably enough... He landed at nearly twice the normal landing speed.. the barrier hook was torn off the aircraft due to the high speed when he tried to stop... He finally slowed enough to stop, then he saw he had no wing... He said if he had seen the damage he would have ejected, becausye intellectually he knew you could not fly with only one wing... McDonnell Douglas sent out an investigative team to obtain the ffacts, as they originally thought it was a ground collission... HUD tapes proved otherwise. They determined that due to the aerodynamic efficiency of the design that the F-15 was like a missile, given enough speed it didnt need wings to fly... Also he mentioned that one of his friends that was in an Israeli F-16 squadron asked to be transferred to the F-15s after he heard of the accdent and saw the result... He highly regarded the Eagles capability... CAG out... |

You sure because I could have sworn it was American. The pilot certainly didn't look Israeli or even speak with any accent. I have to watch it again. |
