FAS.org- Quote: Kfir-C1 fighters with small canards but no armament were delivered to the US Navy and Marine Corps with the designation F-21A for use as "aggressor" aircraft in dissimilar air combat training. Do we still use them as aggressors today? I just wanted to check, but IIRC- they were phased out of that role by F-16s..... |

I dont have them in my inventory listing, but they're probly still hangin around out there. They wernt used because they were particularly good at anything, but rather to simulate the many Mirage based fighters of the various foreign militaries around the world. So that's something they could still do for a long time. |

All Kfirs have been returned to Israel. From Joe Baugher's: Quote: The twelve F-21As went to VF-43 at NAS Oceana in 1985, where they were painted in a two-tone grey scheme. They were replaced by F-16Ns in early 1988, and were all returned to Israel in March of 1988. ... The Marine Corps established its own dissimilar air combat training unit, VFMT-401, at Yuma, Arizona in August of 1987. VFMT-401 received 13 F-21As leased from Israel in 1987...............USMC F-21As were operated by VFMT-401 for a couple of years until being replaced in late 1989 by F-5E Tiger IIs obtained from the USAF. These F-21As were then returned to Israel, bringing the era of the F-21A in US service to an end. http://home.att.net/~jbaugher4/f21.html Zephyr[/url] |

How can parts be a problem? They bought how many, 30? Fly ten, use 20 for parts. Another option, just make parts yourself. Oh yeah I know...the Russian technology is too advanced for America to reproduce |

There was a proposal in the 19somethingorothers to write English using Cyrillic alphabet. When I learned of this, I tried writing both English and German with Cyrillic, and I laughed and laughed, because it's more unsuited to Germanic languages than the Latin script is unsuited for Irish...see? English can't even claim that it has the stupidest writing system, cuz Irish wins that hands down: Ceobhain is the Irish spelling of Kevin... |

The Kfirs were only used by the USN and only on the coasts, at Miramar, Oceana, and Key West... They were all returned to Israel when the F-16N entered service... The MiGs we purchased were not bought to be flown, they were purchased because they were nuclear capable and we did not want Iran to purchase them. Thus they were mostly taken apart or scrapped... Their weapons have been fully studied.. Since the MiG-29 has never had a successful engagement, they are not viewed as much of a threat in the modern air battle... |

I liked how we bought some MiG-29s because they were nuclear capable and we didn't want Iran to have them! |
