nah, it has twin attachment bolts, it isnt going anywhere... I would love to see this bomb in flight so I could see how the winglets pop out... that way I could model the shape effectively for FAF / FA-2... CAG out... |

Now how would you know that? The wing hinges are far enough apart that they could fully sweep to 90 degrees with no problem... There is no way to determine the sweep from the current released pics, after all thsoe are just sketched in wings on the pics on the Boeing site... I prefer pics of the real thing... |

Take a look at that picture. From it you can pretty much come up with a good estimate. If it were 90 degrees they would be straight. But since they have a diagonal it looks a lot like 45° I was using the pics from the test on that page. It looks like the side crosses are fully extended and I don't think it could make 90° since those cross-beams are there.  Now take a look at this picture:  The cross beams are significantly longer than those of the SDB. Therefore 90° is capable here. The SDB uses the MBDA Diamond Back Wing Kit. |

So the second pic isnt the SDB? the winglets on it look to be equally porportioned between rear and forward sweep... instead of like the pic at the BOeing site, which I think is a fake pic... I wonder if they change sweep during the course of the drop? |

The first picture is from a Boeing test. The second is from MDBA site, and it looks like its on a GBU-34 or GBU-35 JDAM. |

an extended range JDAM maybe? Very interesting indeed Cent... I dont know see how I can model the wings on the bombs though, I dont have the available polygons... However I guess I could construct the SDBs from an existing detailed missile shape file... They ahve lots of polygons and detailed skin files... I still need to learn how to add new polygons shapes and skins to the areas of the existing shapes that have no skin file... |

You know, looking at that pic of the F-15E in flight with the SDBs... I bet they had to put that rear bomb rail at that angle to allow the Strike Eagle to rotate off the runway and not scrape the bombs... |

the rear SMER (I think that's what it's called Smart Multiple Ejector Rack) is mounted normaly, the rearmost rack on the CFT has an upsweep to the rear built in to help with runway clearance. He probly still had to keep the nose low on takeoff. |

With the GBU-28. In initial testing they put it on the centerline of the F-15E but it would not be able to take off. That was why in ODS, the F-111F was the only one who was carrying the GBU-28. Now I am curious, does the F-15E carry it now or do they just use it on the B-2 with the GAM configuration. |
