when I saw this in my backyard (another F-4) it just made a kind of flapping buzzing sound , not really loud at all, kinda like those car flags at high speed. Remember these pics are almost always at NEAR supersonic speeds not above the speed of sound. Of all the sonic booms I've heard here, none of them have caused discomfort in the ears , just a big double THUMP in the chest. You really almost feel it more than hear it. |

One flew over Charleston about a week ot two ago, shook everyones windows. Didn't hear a thing though, it all depends on their altitude. But I believe a sonic boom is above 100DB.........especially at the altitude that F-4 was flying at........ |

But he wasn't too far from that F-4 when he took that picture so I am surprised he is still standing. |

100db? that aint nuthin LOL in like 1975 or so the Honda CR-125 put out 113db it's bearable and then some, my chain saw is probobly louder than 100db. And there isnt a shock wave like and explosion from a sonic boom it's more like a ripple or something. For instance it might bump a flag, but it wouldent make it stand straight out or anything. |
