http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showpost.php?p=1318545&postcount=333 Some light details of: "improved" KAB-1500L LGB Kh-59MK2 turbojet long range missile with scene matching to get rid of the man-in-the-loop requirement Kh-58UShK ARM for internal bays The long gestating multi-seeker Kh-38 series (Kh-25 Karen/Keggler replacement) And RVV-SD and RVV-MD "medium range" and "short range" air to air missiles being offered with the MiG-35 to India. I assume these are updated R-77 and R-73 missiles. We'll see what actually gets into service. If the T-50 flies, the Kh-38 and Kh-58 will be nice for carriage in its bays. Zephyr |

I found this article to be propaganda... The Russians alway spump up the 'capabilities' of their weapons, and yet combat always shows them to fall far short of their described capabilites... |

Quote: Future Russian AAM are: R-77-1 (Izedeliye 170-1): R-77 with new seeker. Either in service, or shortly will be. Izedeliye 180: Based n further modernised R-77. Possibly will have standard tail fins, two stage motor, warhead with adaptable fuse, 2 way datalink. Seeker might be dual PRH/TARH. Was due 2010ish. Izedeliye 180-PD: Ramjet powered version. Izedeliye 810: Modernised R-37/R-37M. Seems sorta strange, as Izedeliye 180-PD would have long range and would be lighter. Izedeliye 760: Based on K-74M all digital design with new seeker K-MD (Izedeliye 300): New design with TVC and imaging seeker. |

Are there any multistaged air to air weapons with hypersonic speeds in planning? |

The R-37 "Arrow" and K-172 "Anti-Awacs" (now sometimes called the K-100) are apparently still in development. Both have jettisonable boosters (at least as options), and fairly high speeds.... Mach 3.8 for the KS-172 and Mach 6 for the R-37 according to Wikipedia. If they're ever going to equip the Flanker series or the Pak-FA is anyone's guess. If more MiG-31BMs are built it could be a carrier for the R-37 as well. Russia is having enough trouble getting out the more mundane weapons. However, I read that a new R-77 version and short range missile (R-73 version?) will be shown at MAKS 2009, August 18-23. http://www.aviasalon.com/en/ We'll see |
