The Brits have finally decided to replace thier two remaining SIGINT Nimrod R1s with RC-135 Rivit Joint aircraft. This does NOT unfortunately involve the MRA4 maritime surveillance Nimrods which are also aging and are always on some list of refurb/SLEP work. These veteran aircraft are highly modified versions of the old de Havilland Comet airliner. The first jet airliner, first flown in 1949 and which after a bunch of disastrous accidents nearly ended jet air travel before it began! All hail the Ori. |

The Brits have so few funds I am surprised they have any to replace these aircraft with... And its kind of funny that the Failed Comet, which these Nimrod aircraft are based on, will be replaced by the RC-135 Rivet Joint, which is a version of the Boeing 707, also nearly as old as the Comet and which replaced the Comet in commerical airline service in the early 1950s and opened up economic air travel to the world... |
