Turkey Selects FD-2000 (aka HQ-9) Chinese Surface-To-Air Missile Defense System Over US & European Options, with a contract value of US$3 billion. The winning Chinese FD-2000 system beat the US Patriot, the Russian S-400 and the French-Italian Eurosam Samp-T. Turkey selected the Chinese HQ-9 surface-to air-missile (SAM) for its T-Loramids air-defence programme. The country has also confirmed the cancellation of its Milgem corvette programme and is to begin serial production of the TAI Hürkus basic trainer aircraft. The decisions come following a 26 September meeting of the Executive Committee (EC) Turkish Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM), chaired by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan - selecting China Precision Machinery Import Export Corporation (CPMIEC) for the multi-billion dollar SAM programme.
