I believe most analysts thought those were dummy systems. Although they may still be useful to Iran in that any aerial attacker who sees the vehicles parked somewhere may still expend weapons to destroy them just in case they are real, like what happened with decoys in Operation Allied Force. |

- Iran in ‘Full Control’ of Its Airspace - 14:06 09/06/2012MOSCOW, June 9 (RIA Novosti) The Islamic Republic’s Army has “100 percent control” of the country’s airspace, a senior Iranian commander said. Deputy Commander of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base General Shahrokh Shahram said the base can defend Iran's airspace and territory at all times, Press TV reported. “We believe that we should always be a step ahead of any potential threats and be ready for them,” he said. Iran has repeatedly said that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence. |

IRAN TO COMPLETE BAVAR-373 SYSTEM BY 2016 The infrastructure for manufacturing the Bavar-373 missile defense system is prepared and the “bottlenecks” in the project have been removed, said commander of Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili. He said the system will have been constructed by the end of Iran’s Fifth Development Plan in March 2016. “We hope that by the end of the plan, we will see a very good system with more capabilities than S-300 join [the country’s] Air Defense cycle,” said the commander. Under a contract signed in 2007, Russia was obliged to provide Iran with at least five S-300 defense systems. However, Moscow refused to deliver the system to Iran under the pretext that it is covered by the fourth round of the United Nations Security Council sanctions against Tehran over its nuclear energy program. Over the past years, Iran has attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems. The Islamic Republic has repeatedly assured its neighbors that its military might poses no threat to other countries, insisting that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence. |

Moscow and Tehran have concluded negotiations on the delivery of Russian S-300 missiles to Iran which should take place "within a short period," said Iranian Deputy Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, on a visit in Moscow on Monday. "The negotiations on this were completed successfully. I believe that the delivery of S-300 will take place in a relatively short time", welcomed the Iranian deputy minister was quoted by the Russian news agency RIA Novosti. "It will be done at the earliest possible opportunity," he added after meeting his Russian counterpart Mikhail Bogdanov. The Russian Foreign Ministry has not confirmed those statements, content to recall "the importance of maintaining a regular Russian-Iranian dialogue" in a statement on Monday. So far, Tehran evoked the horizon end of 2015 for receipt of Russian S-300 missiles, whose sale, banned in 2010 by former Russian President Dmitri Medvedev, was again authorized in April by Vladimir Putin. This decision of President Putin displeased the West, Washington believed that such sales "do not help" the conclusion of a final agreement with Iran on its nuclear program while Israel expressed the fear that this "reinforces the aggressiveness "of Tehran. For its part, Moscow believes that the framework agreement signed at Lausanne between the great powers and the Islamic Republic in April Resumption of deliveries of S-300, without waiting for a possible lifting of sanctions decided to deflect Tehran on its program controversial nuclear. |

S 300 is to old to be a current threat. Let the Iranians have as much as they want. Its technology has already been reversed engineered and is no surprise to anyone... It took them to long to get them. Just more money (oil) wasted by the fools in charge. The mere fact that Putin jumped at a chance to make a sale shows how badly Russian needs the economic input to try to shore up their deflated economy... |

Russia is offering Iran the S-300VM instead of the S-300PMU1 to avoid a lawsuit over the cancellation of the latter. The S-300VM "Antey-2500" (NATO reporting name SA-23 Gladiator\Giant) is a Russian anti-ballistic missile system. The system is designed to defeat short- and medium-range ballistic missiles, aeroballistic and cruise missiles, fixed-wing aircraft, as well as loitering ECM platforms and precision-guided munitions. The 9M82M missile is intended to defeat tactical, theater and medium range ballistic missiles, as well as aerodynamic targets at a range of up to 200 km. The Antey-2500 system is mounted on a tracked cross-country vehicle equipped with self-contained power supply and navigation systems, as well as surveying and positioning equipment. |

The original system that is based on was developed 20 years ago and is an upgrade of the S-300V. It has problems overcoming jamming as well as limited computer power for multiple intercepts. The system is much easier to defeat than you might expect. Its abilities are better suited to ballistic intercepts but more limited against maneuvering targets despite Russian claims. The US has these systems here from partners and they have been fully tested... |
