https://www.defensenews.com/pentagon/20 ... make-more/ The key takeaways in this article is the rampant sole-sourcing and the called-out stop-and-start nature. Simple supply chain 101 here, do not put all your eggs in one basket. What this really means is while the DoD is scrambling to find new suppliers, costs are going to go up because they can. |

To much money under the table to go away from the sole source suppliers... The Pentagon is a sewer of dirty money. |

They even sole source pens - I know it's silly but it shows the mentality. My buddy and I were talking about this and he mentioned FFG(X). His premise was he didn't even know why anyone submitted designs, the DoD is in love with the LCS and they'll just make an LCS derivative. |

One of the LCS ended up oversea with a FUBAR engine. They replaced the Perry class frigate that were better armed with a 3 inch gun and harpoons and equipped for ASW. LCS are armed with a 57mm gun, .50cal machine guns and Ram missiles. The were designed to be multi role ships that fail in being a ship. Best Regards, Pappy |

Best Regards, Pappy Well add on the fact that while the 57mm gun is good - the mounting on the LCS is not so it is essentially useless. |

Cent. I would rather have the automatic 3 inch (75mm) gun of the Perry's. It has a longer range and larger shell. The 57mm is what the French, British and Canadians mount on their frigates, only one like the LCS have. Best Regards, Pappy |

Best Regards, Pappy Oh without a doubt the LCS is under-armed but more to the point it's gun is useless because of the mounting. The Oto-Melara 76mm SR is what they should have gone with on that ship. It's more than capable in every role they could have envisioned and it isn't much heavier even fully loaded. |

Cent I agree the 3 inch gun you mentioned would have been better. It is same main gun on the Perry's. It was also on the Pegasus class hydrofoil missile boats that Bill Clinton scrapped with more than a quarter Navy ships in the 90's. That was a waste called a peace dividend by the cigar smoker in the Oval Office. Best Regards, Pappy |

BRAC existed before him and it persisted after him. I don't know how much sign-off the President had on those and given how long any program takes in the DoD, anything closed and scuttled in the earliest days of Clinton would have begun under Bush Sr. Really if those dirty Soviets didn't throw in the towel we would be much better off frankly |
