France and Germany solidified a future partnership in defense strategy Tuesday to jointly build a fighter aircraft to replace Germany’s Eurofighters and France’s Rafale aircraft.

On June 19, the two European nations signed an agreement to produce a "superfighter" that will be available to enter service in the middle of the 21st century, Popular Mechanics reports.

France will spearhead efforts to design and build the aircraft, which has yet to be named, while Germany will take an advanced role in financing the project, according to the report. Few other details exist about what kind of characteristics the aircraft will possess.

The French Defense Ministry said on June 19 it would be taking the lead on the "development" of the new aircraft, Reuters reported. The situation places the company Dassault in an advantageous position to "take charge" of project management duties for the plane, the news outlet said.

"Developing a future multi-role combat aircraft for France and Germany integrated in a weapons system network is a major issue for Europe's strategic autonomy," Dassault chief executive officer Eric Trappier said Tuesday.

France has a more developed aerospace sector than Germany, while KMW's Leopard-series tanks have been advertised as the world's most powerful tank, resulting in a situation where each country's comparative advantage in producing certain types of military equipment arguably leaves both better off.

It's worth noting, though, that an alarming amount of Germany's current military equipment is frequently reported to be inoperable: a German defense ministry study found in February that just nine of Germany's Leopard 2 tanks are combat-ready for NATO's rapid deployment force.

Under a separate agreement that dates back to 2015, Germany's Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) and French company Nexter Systems will develop and manufacture a new generation of Leopard 3 main battle tanks, seeing as the current Leopard 2 tanks in the German Bundeswehr have a 50-year service life set to expire in 2030.

You know it's interesting that they don't learn their lesson. The Tornado turned out good, the Typhoon turned out good, but getting there was like pulling teeth. I can't wait to see one of these nations pull out of the project (because they always do) and it just becomes a mess.

New Video Shows Possible German-French Sixth-Generation Jet Concept

French aviation company Dassault has published a video that purports to show a basic concept drawing of the aircraft France and Germany hope will be just as capable as, if not more so, the stealthy fifth-generation F-35.

The company released footage of an aircraft that some analysts say is the outline for the new jet that France and Germany have promised to produce jointly. Three weeks ago, the two European nations signed an agreement to manufacture a new "superfighter."

The video below shows the fighter aircraft at the 3:10 mark.

"Developing a future multi-role combat aircraft for France and Germany integrated in a weapons system network is a major issue for Europe's strategic autonomy," Dassault chief executive Eric Trappier said at the time. When the defense ministries of both countries made the announcement, the French said they would take a leading role in developing the aircraft.

Analysts are still debating whether the aircraft will be a fifth- or sixth-generation aircraft, Business Insider reports. Some other details about the plane are clear, however. "As expected, two-engine deltawing," Stratfor analyst Sim Tack told BI Monday, referring to the position of the wings, shaped to appear like a triangle.

"If they can pull it off, this seems a legitimate candidate for a highly capable competitor to the F-35 and Su-57," the analyst noted, referring to the aircraft produced by Lockheed Martin and Sukhoi, respectively.

While Dassault figures to pioneer much of the development of the Franco-German military jet, there is a major question about how much Germany will be able to contribute to the aircraft program with such a small defense budget.

German Defense State Secretary Peter Tauber said Monday that Chancellor Angela Merkel's larger defense budget for 2019 is a good start, but "further increases in defense spending should follow in the next years… to meet the Bundeswehr's needs," according to a Reuters report.

US President Donald Trump has blasted Germany's small contributions to its defense needs, and on Sunday NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg told the Bild am Sonntag newspaper that Germany needs to "do even more" to reach the alliance's requirement for members to contribute 2 percent of GDP to their defense budgets, which Germany and other NATO members agreed to do during a 2014 summit.

So the instruments are in German and it reverse course in a dogfight!

A lot of nations need to step up to the plate and antie up and pay more their country's defense.
They have had a free ride on Uncle Sam and the US military for decades since WWII.

Best Regards,
Pappy

France and Germany are wasting their resources building stealth planes to protect from a perceived threat from Russia. Meanwhile, the true invasion force has been arriving from the Middle East for a few years now by ship, train, and automobile; with open arms even.

I really don't know what they hope to achieve. These countries abhor defense spending. They can't maintain their aircraft as it stands nowadays. There's zero chance this will be seen through to completion and I doubt they can piggyback onto the US 6th gen program because even that is going to be an absolute shitshow if the F-35 is any indication.

The F-35 has had an excellent deployment record and the improvements they have made to its stealth design means it now has superior stealth to the F-22... Its an excellent self escorting strike fighter with superior avionics...

Dassault Aviation and Airbus join forces on Future Combat Air System

Dassault Aviation and Airbus have decided to join forces for the development and production of Europe’s Future Combat Air System (FCAS), which is slated to complement and eventually replace current generation of Eurofighter and Rafale fighter aircraft between 2035 and 2040.

*Landmark agreement to develop and produce Europe’s next generation combat aircraft

*Fosters European high-tech leadership in the military aviation sector for decades to come

*Future Combat Air System to be developed as a system of systems, including unmanned aerial vehicles, connectivity and secure communications

*Next generation fighter aircraft to complement and eventually replace current generation of Eurofighter and Rafale fighter aircraft by 2035-2040

*Overall development contract to be launched to follow study and to include demonstrators to support FCAS planned as of 2025

Berlin, 25 April 2018 – Dassault Aviation (stock exchange symbol: AM) and Airbus (stock exchange symbol: AIR) have decided to join forces for the development and production of Europe’s Future Combat Air System (FCAS), which is slated to complement and eventually replace current generation of Eurofighter and Rafale fighter aircraft between 2035 and 2040.

The partnership, sealed in Berlin by Eric Trappier, Chairman and CEO of Dassault Aviation and Dirk Hoke, Airbus Defence and Space Chief Executive Officer (CEO) , represents a landmark industrial agreement to secure European sovereignty and technological leadership in the military aviation sector for the coming decades.

Eric Trappier, Chairman and CEO of Dassault Aviation, said: “We are convinced that by deploying our joint expertise, Dassault Aviation and Airbus can best meet the operational requirements of the Forces in the development of this critically important European programme. Both companies fully intend to work together in the most pragmatic and efficient manner. Our joint roadmap will include proposals to develop demonstrators for the FCAS programme as of 2025. I am convinced that European sovereignty and strategic autonomy can and will only be ensured through independent European solutions. The vision that France and Germany have set forth with FCAS is a bold one and it’s an important signal in, and for, Europe. The FCAS programme will strengthen the political and military ties between Europe’s core nations and it will reinvigorate its aerospace industry.”

“Never before has Europe been more determined to safeguard and foster its political and industrial autonomy and sovereignty in the defence sector. Airbus and Dassault Aviation have absolutely the right expertise to lead the FCAS project. Both companies are already cooperating successfully on Europe’s medium altitude long endurance new generation drone programme,” said Dirk Hoke, CEO of Airbus Defence and Space.
“FCAS takes this successful cooperation to the next level and we are absolutely committed to tackling this challenging mission together with Dassault Aviation. The schedule is tight, so we need to start working together immediately by defining a joint roadmap on how best to meet the requirements and timelines to be set by the two nations. It is therefore of key importance that France and Germany launch an initial joint study this year to address this task.”

Dassault Aviation and Airbus Defence and Space agree on the importance of efficient industrial governance in military programmes. This also includes the involvement of other key European defence industrial players and nations based on government funding and on the principle of best contribution.

Overall, FCAS defines a system of systems combining a wide range of elements connected and operating together, including a next generation fighter aircraft together with Medium-Altitude Long-Endurance Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), the existing fleet of aircraft (which will still operate beyond 2040), future cruise missiles and drones flying in swarms. The overall system will be interoperable and connected in a larger perimeter with mission aircraft, satellites, NATO systems and land and naval combat systems.

The new fighter will roll on its back and wag its tail when it detects an invasion force approaching.

Definitely our American partners
have excellence for contempt and slander.

There are no allies, only interests in NATO coming from the US deep state.

Before having the prototype of the aircraft, they already criticize.

Not surprising given that they have an immeasurable budget in the defense. The record military budget of $ 686 billion just for 2019 ... very far from other countries, at the expense of poverty in the United States that affects more than 40 million people.

Europe, if it had the means of another policy and not the American vassal
would certainly be the first overall power.

I consider that this thing called the "European Union" is only a supranational Euro-Globalist State in the service of Wall Street speculators.

Yes they are voracious, they want a power without sharing on the world.
It is an unknown war, a permanent war, apparently without a death and yet a war to the death.
