I'd like to give homage to the British, Canadians, and Americans who died on D-Day and I'd like to say F U to the French who couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag!

My goal was to start a D-Day discussion but I forgot how I was going to.

So now that being said. On to the D-Day discussion. What a brilliant idea it was to launch the tanks first and clear the beaches. Unfortunately they never made it at Omaha and there was no support, just a full assortment of German troops.

What about the Free French forces and the Legions who fought bravely in the African theather and kept it open, if it wasnt for their help Africa could have gone to Rommel. When they were captured many were just simply shot as crimanls due to the Vichi France agreement. They also fought bravly in Asia along side the Ducth in the bigging. Dont forget the underground Resistence that saved many Allied pilots.

But did France as a whole do a thing to stop the German advance? Nope they sat there and said "Shit I surrender don't kill me, here I drop my rifle!"

All I have to say is Juno Beach. That and Dieppe. The Canadians softened it up so the Pommies and the Americans could get through :P

Seriously though. D-day and the subsequent defeat of the Hitlerfascists only was a success because the various forces worked together properly. The bulk of this in the western front was American and Commonwealth troops, yes, however the Maquis did provide an indispensible service during the occupation and the invasion. Without the information they provided, the D-day assaults would likely have failed.

Gotta hand it to the airborne. They landed behind the front lines and secured the areas ahead of the main landing forces.

OK Cent did u ever hear of the Bitzkriege (SP) Lighting warefare??

If that was US in the place of France in would have fallen too in 1940 in 6 weeks. Think about that. :D The only reason why Britain did not fall and it came close is because it was an island, if they were part of the continetal Europe they would have been gone too.

Doubtful, even at that time we had a better military than *ermany did. We had the resources and industrial power to literally fight and win 2 wars.

Had the Japs landed on the West coast after they bombed Pearl Harbor it is believed that they could have gotten to Chicago before eventually being stopped and repulsed........due to the fact that our Pacific Fleet was desimated.
