If there was ever a desperate shortage of aircraft for whatever reason, they'd probably take a lot out of that place and fix it and fly it. |

It serves an important function Cent! Saves the country billions of dollars and gives us a capability that no other airfoce in the world has! All those C-141s were grounded to excessive fatigue, which is why we have the awesome C-17! Most are still flyable and could re-enter serivce if needed... All the US Customs P-3 AWACs aircraft were retired P-3Bs and Cs that were taken back out of the desert and refurbished and returned to the air for their current service. Saves us 3 billion dollars in new construction costs vs refurbishment costs. Same with the EP-3s... They are all refurbished older P-3s from the desert... Add to this that nearly all spare parts for the current operators of the F-4 come from this location... (South Korea, Greece, Turkey, Germany, etc...) |
