I want to know specifically what everyones favourite aircraft is. This one has to be number 1 in your books. It can be anything you want. From the Flyer, the Colditz glider or even the JSF. Any era any plane. What is you fav.

I'd have to go for one of WWII's best planes...the Vought F4AU Corsair.

F-14 Tomcat
If it wasn't for this jet and its hollywood status I would have never got so into flying and wouldn't be in this community today.

Though I like all 4 of our main fighter jets almost equally.

F-15, F-16, F-18, F-14.

I'd rate em like this-

Favorite- F-15C

2nd favorite- F-16, F-14 (a tie)

3rd favorite- F/A-18

But I'm a sucker for anything that's loud.

F-16CJ Fighting Falcon Block 50D

Give me an ALQ-131, 2 370G tanks, 2 AGM-88D, 2 AIM-9M-9, and 2 AIM-120C and we'll see who is going to have a fun day at a nearby airbase.

no offence but my AL-1A would grease all those from around 200 miles away lol.

Are you sure about that AL-1A range? I've never seen any official number or even estimates, but AvWeek once had a graphic with radius for comparision with space based lasers or something and it looked kind of like 150nm against ballistic missiles.

from last weeks Av-Week
Quote:
The scientists believe the ABL would be effective against liquid-fueled ICBMs at a standoff range of 600 km. (324 naut. mi.). That shrinks to 300 km. for a solid-fueled target because of the booster's greater hardness.

These ranges vary with weather and target hardness, but I've seen mention of effectivness from 240 miles away against soft GROUND TARGETS!!

I personally like the AL-1A as a ground attacker that can defend itself from missles. I dont think the "boost phase Intercept" for strategic missles is a viable concept as it would invite launches as soon as the bad guys thought they saw a 747 come in theatre. I think the tech can work, but politically I think it would make trigger fingers more itchy than they need to be. A ground based version to replace or supplement Patriot batteries might be fantastic, since it wouldent have to loiter for days on end (cycling at leaste 3 planes) it would leave Patriot to engage during bad weather or to supplement in defence of a saturation raid.
