I know a guy who is claiming to have been a Phantom fighter pilot but we think he's lying. He claims to have started flying the Phantom after only 100 hours of flying time. Is this possible?

Also, can you think of anything we could ask him to bust him?

It would help us expose him as a poser and wannabe if you could help. He shouldn't steal the glory away from people who REALLY served the U.S.

thank you,

Tom

QUICK!!! EVERY BODY HIDE!!!!! Somebodies on to us!

Actually it wouldn't be impossible to fly an F4 with only 100 hrs flight time, IF ya know someone. Since I don't think the US military uses the F4 much anymore, it's possible that this guy may know some one that has access to a Phantom that has controls in both seats (Phantams are 2 seaters) that would take him up and let him have the controls for a spell. But that would by NO MEANS make this guy an F4 "Fighter pilot".

I think we have one or 2 that are reaal miltary pilots that could come up with a good drill to put this guy thru, to determine his authenticity.

So the guy claims to have been a phantom fighter pilot. Is this man retired? If so it's possible he could have flown them in the 60's and 70's. Just ask him what squadrons he flew in. But most of all ask him what he picked his call sign to be. If he says he choose his than he's flat out lying. When you train to be a pilot from what I understand the people training you choose your name. It could be something they see in your personality, or something dumb you do. I don't know. I could be wrong but I'm sure someone here knows the correct truth.

Tom if your looking for truth on the internet you've got a lonnnnnnng hard path to walk, good luck, believe nothing you hear and only half of what you see. If 10% of the people out there claiming to be fighter pilots actually ARE stick actuators I'll fall over dead of a heart attack, same goes for those claiming to be snipers and race car drivers and oh yeah Dodge Viper owners lol Dodge would have bought Daimler if they had sold as many Vipers as there are guys claiming to own one LOL

The squadrons would be interesting. I got some nice questions to ask in case he was in the Navy and I bet CAG could ask some really good ones

Kaptor has it right, .... you guys just like witch hunts?
But if it matters, just use your noodles ...
Ask him what Airframe #s where his plane or planes, then do a search.
With very little effort you can find out the crew (if inactive) of any Airframe in general enventory.

ask him for hand signals for formation flight, jeeze just ask him the first 3 things for a F-4 pre-flight check

First thing first...

Is he claiming to be Airforce, Navy, or Marines? Or some other foriegn operator?

Second...

What time frame?
What rank?
What version?

Third...
What airbase, squadron, wing...

From those questions alone you should be able to verify him...

If not then come back and I can give you some more info to garnish...
