There seems to be little info on this aircraft, due to the fact that ti was canceled in 1993, it was said to be due to a Ka-32 helo under developemnt.

does anybody have info on this? IIRC it was an almost exact dupe of the E-2 but had contra-rotating swept blade props. does anyone have the name or dez for this plane so I can search for it? |

Yes its the Yak-44... I have one in FA Futures for teh Russians to use on the Kuznetsov Carrier, even though the program has been frozen (**not cancelled**) due to current lack of funding... |

Well from what i have gathered it went with the way of the russian carriers along side the Yak-41. but they are saying the projects are back in the works. |

Well you can never tell with the Russians... It seems their aircraft industry is more interested in 'disinformation' then information when it comes to projects and funding...

True but then again we have too look at the sources we use for our information. I mean changing one word can mean a lot. EX. The project has been cancled. The project has been frozen. If the writer of the aritcle changes a few words it means a whole different thing. |

Yes, but then you get opposing information from their own sources themselsevles... The same company will say its frozen and then turn around and say its cancelled, then a week later saying they are going forward with development! Russkies!! |

ANd your point is? Of course they are different aircraft, but the similarities are just to apparent to ignore. Obviously the Russians decided to start with the Hawkeye design and then adapt the concept to something they already had. Thus the YAK-44... Same genral size and wing layouts, engine layouts, cabin design, radome placement, etc... |

I am not disputing if the aircraft is or not a copy of the E-2. I am disputing bigs statement that it is a direct copy. The tail and the radar post seem to be the bigest difference. Is it just me or is that the inl pic of that aircraft on the net??? |

Well considering the aircraft has never proceeded past the mockup stage, I doubt there are many any other pics available... However BT you have to understand how the Russians do things... Especially during the cold war when they had limited access to western engineering and eingineers... They would reverse engineer whatever they got ahold of... whatever they had already they would adapt to fit the technology they developed as a result of the reverse engineering... They learned this lesson with teh TU-4 Bull... It took so long to fully reverse engineer the B-29 that by the time the TU-4 was implemented it was fully obsolete.. So to avoid this they would adapt whataever technology they alredy had int heir possession to the tehcnology they obtained from teh reverse engineering, thus saving alot of time and development costs and fielding the weapons / aircraft / within time to still make them effective.... Thus the YAK-44 was / is a reverse engineered E-2 that has been adapted to current Russian technology and available airframes... |

I know how they did many things by borrowing and strealing from others. I mean there is no doubt that the west will want the Russian orcket topido can remeber the name but it can go upto some 300knots underwater. I mean there is no doubt there will be some reverse enginering there. |
