Is the GBU-28 with it's BLU-113 a better penetrator than the GBU-34 with its BLU-109 or the GBU-35 with its BLU-110?

I would think the GBU-28 would be a better overall penetrator, since it is built out of an artillery cannon barrel. Its overall weight is much higher(over 4000 pounds), however I do not know if its warhead is as advnaced and can 'count' the number of fllors it penetrates in a bunker before exploding, or if it is simply a timer activated once the weapons stikes the target or if it uses enertia to close the ignition switch, meaning that once the bomb stops moving completely it explodes...

that's refered to as the "smart fuse" and I believe it is retro-fittable to many guidance kits/warheads.

Yes I thought that the GBU-34/35 would be better because it is made out of a different material but it has since been affirmed that the older GBU-28 is much better, mainly due to the weight and impact velocity.

Had to make sure. It was a valid question. GBU-28s were made in '97 and JDAMs started in '97 with a ton of new ones since OPEF I think so that's at least 6 years of technological advances. The BLU-116 being made now is still a 2,000 lb. weapon but it'll penetrate 2.5x better than the BLU-109 and better than the GBU-28 so...
