not really comparable, but the F14 is clearly superior in BVR. Should be compared to the Mig31, but the Mig31 is neither good at what it was made for, nor at IVR combat.

I'm not aware of a MiG that carries Phoenix missiles

You would be surprised Big! The Russians copied the AIM-54A Phoenix and call it the AA-9 Amos (R-33) and arm their MiG-31 with 4 of them. The R-37 was to replace these and up carriage to 6, but as of this date I can find no evidence they were ever produced (R-37 is an enhanced R-33, to the level of our AIM-54C Phoenix). The MiG-31 actually has superior radar to the F-14s, as it is digital fxed scanned array, however its reliability is in question.

The MiG-31, while better stressed for maneuver then the MiG-25, can not dogfight with a Tomcat, though it does carry a rotary cannon of similiar capability to the M-61 Vulcan...

They even look alike..

Carriage is even close to the Tomcat with all R-33 missiles carried on the belly...

Four R-33 (NATO AA-9 'Amos) semi-active radar homing long-range AAMs in pairs on AKU ejector pylons under fuselage. R-33s are semi-recessed in fuselage.

Two R-40T (AA-6 'Acrid') medium-range IR AAMs on inner underwing pylons.

Four IR R-60 (K-60, AA-8 'Aphip') AAMs on outer underwing pylons in pairs.

GSh-6-23M six barrel Gatling-type 23 mm gun inside fairing on starboard side of lower fuselage, adjacent main landing gear with 260 linkless rounds.

Yep another example of something Russia just couldn't make on their own. Sad yet pathetic.

What's the evidence that the R-33 was a copy, other than the fact it shares the same general aerodynamic configuration of the Pheonix?

Looks, use, characterisitcs, dimensions, etc.

Strong coincidence that a lot of Ruskie missiles seem to spawn outta US ones. ATOLL / Sidewinder; APEX / SPARROW; ADDER / AMRAAM; the list goes on

Cent the fact that they look alike doent mean s**t. So what that they resemble eachother, it like the Tu-160 case, just because u see a resemblence, its not always the case, it is probably a ruskie design. : 8)

I can find quite a few referrence that the Russians developed the R-33 from AIM-54As they obtained from Iran.

However I can not swear out the truth or factual basis of these claims...

Can anyone show me proff that it isnt?

Where did u find this evidence??? I peronaly cannot find anywhere that it is a play off the AIM-54, but the fact that it was developed for the MiG-31 as a long-range standoff missile to fire at B-52, B-1 and SR-71's.

This system is often referred to as the Russian copy of the USA Phoenix missile. This however is incorrect and seems to be based on a similar physical appearance. The USSR did seem to get access to Phoenix design information by espionage via Iran however at that point they had already been working on the AA-9 for some time. The mission profile of the system also differs from its US cousin in that it has an Anti - cruise missile role that the Phoenix lacks. This system is also ( despite incorrect reports) only carried by the Mig-31 and not the Su-27 or the Mig-29. The radar on the Mig-31 is the world's first operational airborne phase array fighter radar beating its US counterparts into service by many years. Again it is very different from the system carried by the Tomcat. Additionally the missile's terminal guidance is by SARH rather than active - this suggests the reason for the rather short range of 120Km for such a powerful system.

Ok if ur sayin that the ruskie VTOL is a rip off the Harrier, it is not, the VTOL in russia began with the YAK-36. The 36 doent look anything like the Harrier and for the record the YAK-38 is s**t if it is a copy someone F***ed by puttin 2 extra motors into it.

The Harrier was built before the Yak 38, and you can see that it's a rip off of the Harrier just by comparing pictures.
