Post subject: | Bharat Rakshak Monitor on ECM |
The Indian Airforce's website has an online newsletter called Bharat Rakshak Monitor: http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/MONITOR/ One article is on aircraft ECM: http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/MONITOR/I ... manoj.html This has some fairly interesting information, especially some stuff I've never seen before about the jammers of some older Russian aircraft. This subject is also what the Aircraft Resource site I was working on will be about. I will try to collect from various sources as much data as I can regarding ECM systems and expendible decoy systems carried by aircraft. This hopefully will be of use for flight sim modders and will be generally interesting as well. http://www.geocities.com/jkpete106/index.html Zephyr |

Thanks Zephyr! This article is very informative and certainly helpful! I had not known of some of these earlier systems either. I will make the cooresponding changes in FA Futures to reflect this new information. |

UMOV or something like that are the chaff/flare dispensors primarily used by the Flankers right? UMOV-26 or something I got them in For Whom the Bell Tolls. |

Manoj: I'm not sure exactly how I found that article. I think it was by following a link someone posted somewhere. Cent: This is why I plan to make Aircraft Resource an ECM Resource. To get all this data in one place. Ken Duffey has some tailboom pics which may provide clues: http://www.duffeyk.fsnet.co.uk/tailbooms.htm And Venik's Aviation (basically Jane's articles) says this: Su-27: Quote: Three banks of APP-50 chaff/flare dispensers (total 96 cartridges) in bottom of long tailcone extension and top of tailsting. Tailcone widened to provide extra chaff/flare dispensers from batch 18 (mid-1987). Su-33: Quote: Self-defence: As Su-27, but with reduced number of chaff/flare dispensers (24 per side). I don't know exactly how many the widened 1987 boom adds, maybe the 96 is the later number. In Flanker 2.5 the aircraft carries 51 chaff and 51 flares, but I think the Su-33 carries that same number when it should be reduced. Here's nine holes on the side of a Su-27 boom: Also you don't often see this bird's nose open, I think its interesting: Zephyr |

Hi, Cent, Agree very much! we can start with FAS, and the article. However to get exact details on numbers carried will be tough to get. |

FAS doesn't have much reliable info anymore. There is Aerospace.org (Aircraft Museum) or something like that Global Security Elevon etc. |

Hi Cent, I meant that FAS is a good starting point, its page on jammers/comms eqpt is good although not updated. Theres also JED which is however more theory and tactics than actual hardware details. |
