dont think having player use the "JATO" is too much of a deal. I mean these are bomber and amphibians were talking about, I'm not too worried about an "advantage" player might get from using JATO in these low performance planes. Maybee the MUCH bigger problem would be the AI using the AB setting when the plane is engaged by weapons and running itself out of fuel VERY quickly.

Kap, I need the JATO effect because in the mission may planes will be stationed on small fields, and the J-21 with JATO can barely take off the runway. Also there will be missions where you take of roads. Yes roads not small runways but actual terrain.

I'm not saying dont use JATO, like I said I use it on my amphib. I'm just saying we shouldent get too worked up over it's exact usage cause some will abuse the idea no matter what we do as LIB builders. I'm gonna go check out my amphib now to see what the AI does with it reguarding the AB fuel rate thing, I HOPE i dont have to totaly re-do the fuel rate just to make it survivable with AI at the helm.

yeah I just tested the amphib, and it works fine even with 600 fuel rate on AB, but I backed it down a little just in case  wish we could do the smoke thing properly though, that would be cool.

Smoke use for simulating JATO would not be AI compatible. To simulate this you would have to emulate the smoke use that was made for Project Blue. The smoke there only worked if the engines were used. Thus no more smoke if you ran dry of fuel. Its a human use only eye candy item. However you can tie it into afterburner effects for non afterburning engines like a bomber. Just have to hit the smoke burst at the same time you hit the 'jato' afterburner rocket effects, or like the ME-163 rocket fighter...

so was this just a smoke pod sort of thing? or was it integrated into the system in some way?

The smoke in Project Blue seemed (IIRC) to only function if you had the engine running and if you had fuel left. After that it did not matter if you tried the pod or not, you got no smoke...
