Post subject: | FA does not work. Windows ME |
The program no longer works, it used to. When I start the program, I get a blue screen that says, "File Name VDD(3) + 00001816 Error: 00 :0028 : C0231D9E" Then I have to restart windows. During this process a blue screen says, Windows protecton, system halted. Then I have to hit the reset button, then it reboots in safe mode, then to the restore program in help. The sysem restore will not work right. I have to use the scanreg /restore command from the run menu. It used to work. It has been a while since I used it. I got the bug again, and dissapointed that it does not work. I have re-installed it, tried to run it with and without the patch to no avail. Can anybody help? It almost sounds like you have bad sectors on your hard drive, not 100% sure. The fact that the restore function does not work in ME makes me suspect your configure in Windows is screwed up. First to insure your hard drive is OK run standard scan-disk, if there are bad sectors it will ask to run a scan of your hard drive. If thats OK, try a re-install of your 3D cards origional software that was supplied with it, this will require an uninstall of the drivers you are currently running. Then update as needed. Re-install FA Re-install FA 1.02f patch Then try useing the new NoCD exe. (you can get it at the FARC or CENTs site) |

Is that a failure of the Virtual Disk Drive ? You shouldprobably do a full reformat and reinstall. Do you have a recovery CD? What is the manufacturere of your system? CAG out... |

yes cag is right. Fully Format your hard drive. Also i would recommend installing WINXP so you can convert your drive into NTFS. FA does work in winxp with ntfs. thats how im running it despite some crashes time to time. Hard Drive Corruption can be cause in many different ways. Tell me, where is your hard drive located? do you have a big CRT monitor. If so keep the monitor away from the hard drive. Because of the radiations given off by monitors, equipments such as CDs, Floppy Disks and Hard Disk can go wary or be completly destroyed. Hope This Helps/ |

Back Again. Since my last post I have givin both hard drives a thourogh scan. Scan Disk found no errors. Formatting the hard drives will have to be done after I get a full backup of my drives. I am in a precarious position with these other files. They are my buisness files. The next step before I do any thing else is to go get some disks and run the backup. I will send a post after this is done. Right now we are extremely busy but I will try to get this done soon as possible. I also found this to be kinda interesting. http://www.computing.net/windowsme/wwwb ... 43469.html For Ali - I have a 17" Sony CRT monitor. It's about 3-1/2 feet from the computer they are horizonal to each other. I have it (cpu) sitting on a seperate table off to the side of my desk, that way when I bump my desk it doesn't effect the computer. I thank you all and I shall return Need to fly the Tomcat. |

I think I might have a clue as to what your problem is. At some point it appears your 3D card is trying to run FA in a screen resolution that it does not like. Now you can run the game itself in a couple different resolutions, but I think the opening screens, and or selection screens may run at 800 x 600. Maybe someone else here can confirm or dispute this. On top of that I am almost certain that within you 3D card settings you can allow the program to establish the resolution it will run in, and define some of the other rendering options. In order to get the nVIDIA card I sometimes use I had to create a "profile" for FA, which basicly disabled most of the functions of this card. I have found that many of my older program either do not run or run poorly with my newer cards. Generally I run an older card with my pre-9X programs, and pop in the nVIDIA to run post-9X programs. I would suggest before you do a reformat you visit the card makers site and see if they have an support forum (many now do) I'd bet someone there will know just what is going on. |

intro and menu are in 640x480, rest ist 320x200 - 1024x768 depending on settings. Maybe the refresh rate is not correct at those resolutions(I think that is what Fetch is thinking, too). Im not sure if that can cause a bluescreen, but playing around with those settings a little might help. |

Thanks TANK, I was almost certain that the opening screens and stuff where ran at a "forced resolution". I had a simular problem with IAF once. IAF runs at only one resolution, you can't change it, or anything. I got the blue screen right when the autorun kicked in. I set my resolution to 800 x 600 and it took off. cool beanz Hopefully we can spare FlyBy_Knight a reformat. But the fact that the restore won't work on ME still puzzles me. I bet ya that 5200 card he is running has an "let program determind resolution" option. Good luck Knight. |

Thanks to all. I'm thinking Video Card too. I had to get a new card about a year ago. I do not remember using the program since then. The restore problem might be another deal. I haven't had time to get my backup done, so I haven't screwed with anything else yet. In Febuary I tried installing a Sony DVD Burner (for backup purposes). It kept crashing and rebooting itself and just would not work. The Sony tech support was real helpfull and after several tricks and tries, they said it just will not work with my system for some reason. I think It had somthing to do with the Veritas software that came with it. I'm wondering if between that and the upgraded card, something got screwed up real good. I have to get going, people are waiting on me, and I have several jobs going at one time, but screw it. Life is too short and I feel the need for speed. I need my FA. Good stress reliever. I'll be back in touch. Thank You All. FlyBy Knight |
