Hello,

This is my first post, but I've been a fan of FA ever since it came out in 1997. I'm just now going "back into my roots", and boning up on the new mods ever since I tried the VarkLibs way back when. I'm very impressed by what you guys are doing.

I'm having a serious problem with my joystick. It's a Microsoft Sidewinder, and it works fine with all the other games. However, my newly reinstall FA (in Windows XP) refuses to recognize the joystick at all. It's by USB port. I go to the flight engine, press ESC, and try to set the controller to the joystick, but the game refuses to do it. So for the time being, the game only recognized "keyboard" as the only controller.

Is there any tips or advice you guys have that can help me out? Thank you in advance.

have you checked it out in the joysticks/game controller section of "control panel" in XP?

Roger, I've done that. And my Sidewinder has a big fat "OK" on the control panel, it works with every other game, except FA.

is the EA.CFG write protected in your FA directory? If it is you cant make any changes in your FA options. In this case you should remove the write-protection, then set up everything for your joystick and after that write-protect it again.

This i just one possibility, no idea what else it could be.

Hello,

It's not write protected. Hell, I even deleted the whole thing, reconfigured the joystick, and tried it again. No luck man.

I was in your shoe before, and did you install the latest direct x? They fixed this problem I had before. If you have direct 8 or earlier, then FA wont work with your new joystick with window xp. MAKE SURE that you have the latest installation of direct x, and service pack from microsoft!

Hello,

I just downloaded Direct X 9 as well as all the newest updated for Windows XP. Now not only I get no joystick recognition in FA, but also for my others games as well . . .

Roger that, I downloaded the service pack for XP.

I was able to resolve the problem on my other games by selecting a "Force Port" issue on the launcher before I ran the EXE. Unfortunately, FA doesn't have that feature.

Hey guys, letting you know I finally solved this issue.

I had to reformat my hard drive and install a fresh copy of Windows XP all over again.

Now it's time to check out CAG's mod...

Have fun Psych, but remember, the next release will be decades ahead of the current one with all new shapes, weapons, and 100% accurate FMs...

Plus a full winter Korean Campaign Theater added to the existing summer version...

CAG out...

I'm still here. I've been busy with real life lately.

I did select joystick in flight back then, but when I highlighted it, the FA game refused to select it and it was still stuck in "keyboard" option. But thankfully, it's not a problem anymore.
