Post subject: | LIBs with FA on XP? |
Okay, I've spent the last week trying to find the answer to this but haven't had any luck. FA 1.02 on XP Pro -- it works fine (except for some annoying double-clicky sounds when selecting something). When I put an FA_0.LIB file in the FA directory and click on Quick Mission the game crashes. Remove the LIB and it is fine. I know the LIB has to be stamped with a date newer than the program. I tried FA both on a FAT32 and an NTFS partition and no-go, does the same exact thing. Also tried loading FATK along with it and recreating a one-plane modification LIB with no luck. I have the newest video drivers and directx and I'm running out of ideas. Is there a way to play with LIB files or do I have to go the annoying route and create a dual boot? |

It depends on how the XP Pro was setup.... FAT 32 or NTFS... If it resides on a FAT 32 drive you are screwed you need to reinstall with NTFS Also it depends on the stability of your installation, available memory, etc... FAF LIbs are XP Pro capable ... go to http://vnfawing.com/ and visit out forums... CAG out... |

When you patch FA in XP you have to do the following. 1. Run FA102e.exe 2. Copy default four LIBs from someone with 98 as the patch does not update the LIBs. 3. Ready to Fly... If you are installing the FA102 patch + no-cd you still have to do these two steps above but instead of flying on step 3 you copy over the files from the no-cd. Just remember to copy the FA_4C.LIB from the Blue Disc or else campaigns will crash at the promotion/medal screens. |

maybe Cent could write instructions which could be made sticky. Then it'll be easiest to read. |

Post subject: | got it |
Thanks everyone. Got it up and running. Tried the above and still had issues with the LIB I was trying. So I finally got FATK working (new system and my old code didn't work, you know the drill) and recreated the LIB I was using by adding something else to it. Apparently it didn't like just having one modified item (i.e. one plane) in it. So I created a munition too. Works as advertised now. Now on to my next mission! Keep the shiny side up, or down, depending on how you like to fly. |

Oh wow, I totally ignored the last part of your question. Yes XP is wierd insomuch as sometimes you have to add like two items to get it to work rather than just one. It's odd, I can't figure it out, I just wing it. |
