Yeah USNF was the game that got me hooked on the series. Then ATF, NATO Fighters, and FA. No USNF97 because FA came out so soon after with everything and more. Zephyr |

The USNF '97 game was the one I knew and loved until I started recieving an intolerable number of CTDs while playing, so I went out and bought FA a while before it went off the shelves. |

USNF im talking about is Old. Back before ATF, USNF 97, ATF GOLD, and FA (in that order i think. did i miss one. NATO Fighters rings a faint bell) I own USNF, ATF, ATF Gold, and FA. Once you have FA you have them all but USNF was fun and did start the series off. Im looking to get myself a older like P3 with a Voodoo Banchee and 512ram with win98 so i can play alll my old dos games and such. Thoes were the days. Before i upgraded my P66 ACER system to 16mb ram i had to use a boot disk to play ATF lol. |

Yea, I started with USNF, too. You could only fly a couple of planes. With some tricks it was possible to fly the Av8 and Yak141 or something like that even though they were not officially available. Any other planes and it'd CTD. |

Yes I know what USNF fighters is, but you are very wrong if you think its the first of the series that ended up with FA... Chuck Yeagers Air Combat Simulator was the first of the series that developed through all the titles into the FA we know today. It pioneered the envelope window, the chaff use, the target window, all of it. USNF was nothing more then an updated version of the same basic game engine, as were all of the development line... (RE: 'Bah' - In response to this all I can say is I know a hell of alot more about the game code then you will ever hope to, so dont try to lecture me, your ignorance makes you look foolish...) CAG out... |

I really loved that ATF. Some years later when I bought FA, the large selection of planes was ultra cool. But my decision then was to keep flying ATF. Reasons were that the sound kept dropping out. I cannot have my sound go, it messes up my simworld! Even once I got the Toolkit I still wanted ATF cause of no sound problems and no problems with too many objects. Finally the lure of all those extra aircraft was too much and I made my peace with FA. |

CAG Hotshot wrote: FA is USNF 97. Its just one of its modules... Yeah, it is a module, but at the time, I was like 11 or 12, I conjectured that replacing USNF with FA i wouldnt have to deal with the CTDs, which it did. |

But want'ed to add that maintaining an 98' machine is the ticket for running the old DOS and 95' era games. LOL Yea DUKE, it's when I'm loading one of them old games from 5 3.5s that it starts to dawn on me that just maybe I might be the oldest liveing gamer ... |

I think that there may be some early releases of USNF that where on 3.5s. But I could be wrong. The Chuck Yeager one came on 3.5s. But in my humble opinion the games that really kicked off what I concider the "golden age of flight sims" is the Wing Commander series. I still run Privater from 3.5s. And also run Prophecy but I got that on CDs. If you compare what flight sims looked like back in in the early 90's before 95 came out you can see how ground breaking the Wing Commander series was. True these are Outer Space based games, but in their day they totally put to shame any terestial sims that where out, and hinted at what might be possible. Many of you may have seen these games for PlayStation 1 way back when .... Duke I'm only 43yrs old, so I ain't like totally worn out yet, but I generally do not let on that I'm that old. |

My copy of Check Yeagers Aircombat is on CD, though I did own the original 3.5" diskette version as well at some point in time... Just to clarify, I never said that the Aircombat sim signified the "golden age of flight sims" just that it was the very first version that ultimately developed into FA... Which it directly did... And Fetch, you're still a youngster... CAG out... |

Quote: "golden age of flight sims" Oh no CAG I was not trying to imply that you intended that or put words in your mouth. When I say "the gold age of flight sims" I'm reffering to 1996 tru 1999, when so many good simulations where made. |
