Maybe it needs some way to track or select a target beyond visual range? In order to assign damage to an object or effect to a location.

Hello,

The round might be disappearing because its "exist time" is too short. Edit the ordnance and view the "Missile Info" screen. Exist time is in the Event Timing box, the units are 1/4 second.

If you have the round going long distances in a straight line it might end up hitting something in the path or falling to the ground. I recommend simulating a ballistic flight path by giving it a cruise missile flight (Cruise Activity box in Missile Info, and the Cruise Missile Flight check box in the "Ordnance" screen). If you play around with the round's turn speed and the cruise parameters it might look like a smooth ballistic flight. I just made my mortar rounds invisible.

Basically as I recall you have to build it as a missle ( been a while for me lol ) give it some kind of seeker other than what the ship itself uses and then set those slew boxes on the hardpoint page to what you want. You may or may not have to set it as a "secondary weapon".

Thank you for sending the Iowa gun file. Could that info be made into a lib that I could put in the FA game file? I just play the game and am not a lib maker. :)

Here's what I was going to try, for a quick addition of some deck guns for shore battery use after this string started me thinking about it. Take the guns from the M1 Tank and add 5 or 6 of them to the Iowa and see if I could get the range out to 5 miles plus. Since the Tank Rounds have a tracer effect and do, although limited, the right type of damage.
