Post subject:  Transparency Issues

Hi All,

I need help on getting transparencies to work on an imported bitmap. I'm trying to edit out the rotor blades on the V-22, and when I erase them, then import them into the game, the spots where the rotor blades were are white squares and parts of the fuselege are also white. :? I'm trying to make a campaign & LIB of when diplomacy in the far east between Russia and Japan end, and war ensues. It's over the age old problem of what to do with the Kuril Islands. The Russians get a little agitated so the Russian navy gets called to invade the island nation. Tell me what you think about it.

Thanks,

Radical_D

What do you mean by 'importing them'??

Please explain the process you go through in editing your textures...

I think this is the main problem you are experiencing..

If you use MS Paint in Windows XP, the transparency of the white background is not maintained. I'm not sure if there's a work around using Paint, but you may have to use a different graphics editing program to preserve this transparency.

Does Photoshop work for that? I've been using mspaint on the textures.

I believe Paintshop pro has a pallete editing thing, so it should work I think. The last pallete value (#255) had to be either 255,255,255 or 252,252,252 to be transparent, I think. You might not even need to change these pallete settings.

Radical, if you have no luck try this...

Paint all the areas you want transparent a very noticeable colour like a RED or BRIGHT BLUE that doesn't match anything on the surrounding blades. Then save and send it to me via e-mail and title it with FIGHTERS ANTHOLOGY at the beginning so I don't miss it, I will make all those coloured areas transparent for you if you have no luck alright? It's very easy and if you want to make your life easier for editing textures keep your eye out for a JASC Paint Shop Pro 6 download. Version 6 is a very easy and powerful one to use for anyone, experienced or not. Good luck and I'll catch ya later...

I do it the way Jimbo does, then select the to be transparent areas, invert selection, then copy the new selection and paste it into the original bitmap.

sure, when you open it in PSP7 you just go to the toolbar at top and click "colors" then "edit pallet" then when that box opens double click the color box in the bottom right side, then when the edit box opens just take the blue slider all the way to the left so that the color you have is 252 252 0, it will change to a yellow color, and when you click "ok" all the transparent colors in the PIC file will be that yellow color too. Then to make anything dissapear, just use the "eyedropper" to pick that yellow color to paint with, and paint over the rotors or whatever you want to dissapear, within reason of course, you aint gonna make a wing dissapear or anything LOL. PSP also has color replacer that works in 256 pallet so you can pick a color in the PIC file and change ALL things that color to another color with just the click of the mouse :D

In WIN2000 or XP (as Zeph says) transparency doesn't work in MSPAINT, Fireworks, and prob PSP too!

Sucks for me :(

I run XP, I use PSP 6, I can easily have transparency. Have any questions ask because there shouldn't be a problem getting transparency if you have JASC Paint Shop Pro.

Yeah I tried PSP7 but the new features weren't appealing at all, try your butt off to get 6, or just ask someone to send you the SETUP.EXE it is that easy.

dude what probs did you have with PSP7? Everything I've done is with PSP7(FA , fake pics for fun etc). I tried adobe photoshop6, and I spit in it's general direction, difficult and complicated compared to PSP7 and it only did 1 thing PSP wont do (text in a curve shape big deal) and oh yeah PSP is like $500 less than Photoshop as I recall, so in short I love it !! I tutored Manoj but I guess it didnt stick LOL.
