Does anyone know how to change the type of symbology that appears on a given HUD? All I know so far is that the MiG-17, MiG-21, and Yak-9 HUDs do not show a drop-fall line when your bombs are armed. The effect I want is to have a F-117 HUD, but with no drop-fall line.

I want to get this effect for my P-51 Mustang. I think the "ironwork" on the F-117 looks especially realistic for a P-51, but I still want players to have to guesstimate where their bombs will land

No you can not change the symbology that is used in the HUD, all you can do is select the F117 HUD for the aircraft you are using...

I managed to work in the F-104 cockpit graphics around the MiG-17 symbology through some fairly straightforward hex editing. It looks a little weird, but it works after a fasion. Unfortunately, I was not able to do this with the F-117 cockpit, because the image sizes for the MiG-17 and F-117 cockpits do not match up. I ended up with the ironwork way over on the left side of the screen when the view was centered.

So for now, I'm sticking with the F-104 cockpit/MiG-17 symbology combination. Might there be a more efficient way to do it? I tried changing the image size in FATK/Photoshop, but I got a CTD.

Why are you hex editing in graphics when you can edit the actual graphics of any HUD via the FATK?

Simply cut and paste in the graphics you want after you match the pallettes. Remember to edit the transparency so you dont lose it though!

I found it to be a little less work to to just change the names in my hex editor. But it caused a CTD, so I guess I'll have to do it your way anyhow. The resolutions may or may not be a problem. Will let you know in my next post how it works out.

PS: What do you think of using the F-117 HUD for a P-51? I personally think the ironwork would look great on an old WW2 bird.

I dont use any default FA HUD graphics, I find them to be to low a quality.

My F-51 in FAF Korea 1950-53 has a true F-51 cockpit graphic...

As do all my aircraft in FAF, all have vastly improved Cockpit graphics...
