Hi All:

A beta version of "Air War: North Vietnam" is available for download:

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/fa/AWNVN_Beta.zip

You can preview the ReadMe (PDF file) for this collection of 200 'Nam missions here:

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/fa ... ReadMe.pdf

The AWNVN missions do require the following:

- the NAM-ELH LIB set
- the NAM-MAPS set
- Fighters Anthology 1.00F or 1.02F

NAM-ELH and NAM-MAPS can both be downloaded from my FA home page:

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/fa/index.html

Even if you've downloaded NAM-ELH or NAM-MAPS before, I would recommend downloading the latest versions listed on the above page.

As noted earlier, this is a beta version. The missions are essentially complete, though you may still find the occasional error or glitch (which I would appreciate hearing about). Also, the documentation for this mission collection is not quite finished (but close enough for a beta version).

- ReadMe (complete & included)
- Mission Summary (complete & included)
- Historical Notes (75 percent complete, included)
- Glossary (90 percent complete, included)
- Bibliography (complete & included)
- SEA Map (not included)
- Timeline (not included)

Comments, suggestions, questions, & corrections regarding any aspect of this project are most welcome.

Best,

Eric L. Howes

Hi All:

Just a quick note to let interested folks know that I've uploaded an updated version of the AWNVN Beta package:

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/fa/AWNVN_Beta.zip

This update contains documentation that is now essentially complete, save the Timeline, which I am still working on.

The mission LIBs have not been updated at all, although there are a few missions that still need tweaking. If anyone has played missions and has suggestions or feedback, I'm all ears.

Best,

Eric L. Howes

Hi All:

Some important updates on this project. First, prompted by some helpful suggestions that I received via PM, I've updated my NAM-ELH LIB set (required by the AWNVN missions). Several changes are incorporated into this new build:

1) Corrected a severe problem with the B-52G;

2) Added a USN-themed texture for the A-1H/J (from Centaurian's collection);

3) Added several new aircraft including:

- A-1E Skyraider (in USAF SEA cammo)
- A-26B Invader (in a custom green Atlantique shape/texture)
- AC-119G Shadow (in another shape/texture from Centaurian)
- T-28D Nomad

4) Replaced the AN-12 Cub with the AN-2 Colt.

Given that some of these changes and additions required tweaks to missions in the AWNVN collection, I have uploaded a new copy of AWNVN.

Both the updated NAM-ELH set and the updated AWNVN collection can be downloaded from my FA page:

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/fa/index.html

I'm still plugging away on the Timeline for AWNVN...

What did you use for your AN-2 Colt?

CAG Hotshot:

Sorry, forgot to include the description for that one. I used the F.260 shape/texture from the Korean War LIB that you did with Tango back in 2000. Not ideal for a bi-plane like the AN-2, but I didn't want to re-use the A-1, which I had already re-used for the T-28 Nomad.

If you've got a better idea, I'm all ears.

Hi All:

I've uploaded another update to NAM-ELH -- again based on helpful feedback I've received via PM. Changes include:

- C-123 now has chaff/flares

- AC-119 now has chaff/flares

- AC-130 now carries 105mm, 40mm, 20mm, & 7.62mm guns

- B-57B Canberra now uses a dark grey A-37 shape/texture from Jeff White's NamLIB

As none of these changes requires tweaks to missions in AWNVN, that collection has not been updated.

I dont remember you asking permission to use VNFAWING libraries...

What did you use to open the lib? Where did you get it?

CAG HOtshot:

No special tools, just the FA Toolkit. I didn't realize it was considered an VNFAWING library. If you'd prefer that I take it out, that is easily arranged.

The library should have been locked. Where did you obtain it?

For you to use these items you will need Tango's permission as well as the rest of the development team. I will contact them to ask on your behalf...

CAG Hotshot:

The .PIC and .SH files that I got weren't directly from your LIB. They were in separate package billed as a Yak-9 that I scavenged last summer off some now defunct web site through the Internet Archive's "WayBack Machine" (archive.org). The brief note included with the package mentioned that the aircraft was from the Korean War LIB.

FWIW, the NAM-ELH ReadMe does credit the source, which I confirmed after downloading the Korean War LIB from the FARC LIB page.

I appreciate your asking permission on my behalf. If the decision is not to allow it, let me know and it will come out.
