Post subject: | FA Editing questions and JKPFA lib |
Greetings, I recently installed FA again to bring back some old memories and stumbled accross your site and your JKPFA 4.55 lib. Your new version of the JKPFA lib sounds very exciting, as does your 1024x768 cockpits! In any event, I am in the planning stages of a ~40 mission campaign using the old Ukraine map aka USNF and wanted to know if I start designing with the JKPFA 4.55 lib, will I have problems when the new lib is released. Will it require me to rebuild the missions with all new objects or will the existing objects still be the same? I hope to create a campaign where the player focuses on flying for Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, and Poland, with a potential to fly for the Ukraine at some point in time. This brings me to a few questions I have: 1. Do those Ukraine season specific libs just change textures? I ask because if I build custom airports for each side and I want to switch a season, will I have to rebuild the airports? 2. Can I change the side of a specific airport in a mission to simulate a Russian offensive. Example: Russians take over Odessa, can I just change Odessa to be russian controlled while keeping the remaining Ukrainian runways Ukrainian? 3. When editing a mission, can I go into a 3d view to move objects. I seem to remember you could do this somehow, but I can't remember if its possible for sure (I sure hope it is - it's been almost 8 or 9 years since I've touched the mission editor!). I fear I won't be able to accurately place runways if I can't see them in a 3d view to check their positions. Any ideas here? I appreciate your comments and suggestions as I embark on this project. I have 11 missions planned and another 10 or so in the early stages so it will soon be time to start designing -Groove_GFA PS: ------------- Lib Wishlist: I would love to have a MiG-21bis-D/Lancer, as it's the upgraded MiG-21 flown by Romania. If you're thinking of more aircraft for the next release, I know I'd just love to see it. |

As far as I know, JKPFA Libs have no 1024 x 768 cockpits... FA Futures doesnt even have this rez on pits yet... Are you sure you have not confused things a bit? |

Probably, I think I got confused between the two projects you've got going on. Any insight on my three questions? The ability to precisely place objects during airport creation is probably my biggest concern, the rest are minor. |

The mission builder has a 3D viewing for any objects that you want to place on the mission map... You can download the entire FA manual in PDF if you dont have one to referrence... |

Thanks, I managed to find my beloved FA box stored away but I haven't climbed up to get it - hopefully the manual is still in it. That was probably one of the best manuals I have ever read for a PC game I remember at the time. I'll download the manual from the site here and give it another read. It seems like so long ago when it was first released, but firing up the game and playing some missions has really got me nostalgic for the good old days. Wish me luck... |

Wow, time sure flies doesn't it? I'm interested in trying your FAF Korea project when it's all finished. I'm going to keep checking back for it. I'm out for the night but I'll be back to check in! -Groove |

It will be another item to look forward to this year then. I just saw the screenshots of the proximity based explosions from your other post, very cool. |

I recommend building missions with the latest JKPFA 5 "beta." I call them beta because they are rough around the edges, unfinished textures, etc. But overall, they are updated and more accurate than JKPFA 4.55. To answer your questions: 1. AFAIK the Ukraine map libs only change the textures. So you can switch seasonal maps. 2. I believe this is possible but I forget the method. I'll try to find out. 3. Press CTRL-S in the 3d view and you can move objects. I've found that you can more things more precisely outside of the 3d view (in the map, pixel by pixel), but 3d view helps get things in the general location. I will release a new version of my lib with the MiG-21 Lancer added. Zephyr |

Zephyr, once I get Korea finished can I use your new France and Ukraine maps and textures on followon FAF maps? When I looked at them they looked like adapted versions of PW's map textures for EAW, is that correct? They are certainly very nice... |
