I have been successful at creating tanks with revolving turrets...

So far there are only a few draw backs (that I will explain in a bit) and overall the new moving turrets are a welcome addition to realism in the sim...

The tanks were more difficult than, say, SAMs or AAA vehicles, because the game has very special command structure for tanks when they engage each other, and creating functional turrets that worked with this narrow definiton of commands was difficult at best, and a nightmare at worst! However I was able to strike a compromise I think you will like!

The tank either moves or stays stationary while the turret revolves and engages targets, destroying them with either direct tank cannon fire or with 50 cal secondary machinegun fire, at the same time firing off smoke grenades to hide their location from enemy tanks (works VERY well against tanks that have only optical targetting and no laser range finders)...

I will post some pics and a short movie as soon as I am done with the new detailed skins...

I hope you will like them!

CAG out...

( like the smoke grenades idea )

Does the turret spin for the small arms fire as well or are they allowed to gimbal separately?

The coaxial machine gun requires the turret to turn, the commander's machine gun slew independantly. Its a secondary weapon and will fire at its own targets, be it an air or ground based target, depending upon the target types selected for the vehicle to attack in the mission...

The main drawback for these turret active vehicles is that they can not be used on anything but perfeclty flat ground of the turret will not traverse right.

The hull stays aligned to the terrain, but the turret is always on a flat plane and doesnt align to the hull on uneven ground...

This is the same problem with turretted SAM and AAA vehicle though, so its not a new issue.
