I found an article that I think will help those running FA in Windoes 7...

The proper procedure for setting up and running a real XP compatability mode in Winwos 7.

i hate the virtual machine crap. i just restart into windows xp pro if i need to work with FA now what pisses me off is that FA runs beautifully on vista but cant run for shizzle on 7.

I have FA running no problem on my Win 7 system now...

However, I will be following the XP compatability to run FAF on it...

Hopefully you can get FAF running in XP compatibility mode. Would be a shame if you could not get it to run in compatibility mode. After all what is compatibility mode for eh. If it didn't work, why include it? Just seems a waste to include a compatibility mode if you can't get games to work which were made for older systems. Thats why compatibility mode needs to work because its a compatibility mode for older software which might not work in newer systems. Thats the thing with newer systems, there are so many changes which cause older software to not run properly or even work at all so compatibility mode is a good thing. Don't you agree? I think you must agree anyway since you are trying compatibility mode. Well you say you are going to try and get FAF running in XP compatibility mode but saying is different from trying. So are you really trying or are you just saying?

thats wierd cag i tried FA on 3 different PCs with windows 7, it has graphical problems.

Graphical problems are usually not brought on by win 7, they are usually brought on my the video card you are using, in conjunction with the driver, but could also still be a win 7 issue due to the version of direct X running in win 7 (direct X 11 I believe)...

Try setting up the XP Comp Mode in the article and see if that takes care of your issues, if it doesnt then you can be certain the issue is graphics card/driver...

well the same graphic cards work with FA in vista and xp. so this is a win7 issue specifically directx 11. i just use FA on my xp, i have set up dual boot on my pc.

What you are using or not using isnt the issue...

What is the issue is that win7 works if you have the right drver on the right video card for win7, but if you dont than you can install the XP compatability mode setup and it will work with the wrong video card and the wrong driver for win7...

i just tried the xp mode and i cant run FA. xp mode my ass. it fails to start and gives directx errors. btw im getting internal error 500 now zephyr.

Well than perhaps you have an install error? I dont have any problems with the XP compat mode on my test system in win7...

I've found a way for playing FA on win 7 64 with some hassle/consequences/little problems

using batch script to kill explorer.exe and then playing FA....

the down side is that because you killed explorer then it would mean

1. you have to manually start the explorer again, done by calling task manager, opening cmd prompt and typing start explorer.exe

2. you cannot have other programs running in background or simultaneously like FRAPS, or video recorder.... or perhaps anything at all, antivirus like avira does work though.....

3. you have to manually start your startup programs and other programs you usually open/use.... after you finished playing FA

this is where I got this fix, I was googling something about FA under win 7 and xp compatibility when I found that link and eureka, it works! hell, even people who commented on that site was using FA not starcraft

the graphical problems you guys encountering on vista/7 is as the site above explained, caused by explorer.exe not your videocard or graphic drivers....

Now that is some awesome info! I no longer have a win7 test system setup, but I will again soon and I will give this a try...
