I thought you might like to see what I have been able to do with direct hex editing the default FA F-18C.SH file to come up with my own F/!-18E.
I finished this one in 2008. It has the new intakes as well, with reformed engine bays to better match the true Super Hornet, angling down behind the intakes and then back up to the afterburners, also has the larger Leading Edge Root Extensions, plus a new mapped skinset, improved canopy, improved wings (launch rails on the tips, widened and deepened wngs, and full trailing edge flaps, also widened the vortex off the wingtips so they would line up), improved landing gear, and a fully skinned nose. Plus has no transparent polygons where they shouldnt be any, they all have the correct visibility. The skin is 512 by 512 and all mirroring has been removed and individual panels used so the numbers and markings lineup correctly on all fuselage, wing, and tail panels (I removed the ingame insignia and tail art as they looked like crap anyway). I also widened the shadow to properly match the aircraft. The only thing I did not do was install the new hard points on the bottom of the wings. I completed that on the skin after I took those pics...
This shape took many days to complete, which hopefully will not be as much of a probem with your shape editing tool for future new shapes...
Tha last 5 pics show the Super Hornet landing on my Osan airbase with the new runway skin, with worn runways, landing skid marks, runway runoff markers, proper runway numbers for strip direction, new taxiways, proper dispersal area and hard stands, taxiway direction signs, and lighting effects...
All on the new FAF Korea winter terrain...
So now that you have joined the vnfawing group you have a real idea of the kind of work you have instore for you!
