I have completed the new shape for the SU-17/20/22 Fitters... The new shape has functional swing wings, and improved skin and a raised fuselage behind the cockpit. This has got to have been the most difficult shape I have ever worked on... I created it from the Su-7 Fitter in the sim, improved it and added a sort of swing wing to it... The wing will only go fully forward or fully back, I think this was how the aircraft was origially configured, using the swing wing only for landings. It adds lift to the aircraft and reduces approach speeds so it is fully functional... Here are a series of screenshots (Sorry for the 800 x 600 but I am having an issue with 1024 x 769 cockpit failures.)... Pictures show the wings swept and fully forward for landing... As you can see there still are some issues... I have to fix the nose gear and the aircaft attitude when landed (add more nose up) and add the nose probes. Plus complete some more detail on the aluminum skin, then build the camo versions of the skin as well... All this is minor though compared to the problems I had building this SOB! Also there is no way for me to fix the shadow right now, maybe down the road in another release, but not right now. I need to study how to make the shadow animated to match the shape, by comparing shadows of other swing wing aircraft... I also have visibility issues with the wing fences. It has to do with the polygons I built them from... Dont know how to over come those either, but give me time and I will figure it out! So, I hope you liked it, it will be in this release of FAF... CAG out... |

Fitters were always one of my Soviet faves due to the oddity of such small swing wings. They served long and hard in forces all over the world and were capable strikers for a long time, I'm sure many are still in use today. Thanks for another great shape! |

You are welcome... This one was a real b1tch though! Its not prefect, but neither is FA itself so it should work well enough... Reskinning it was a royal pain as I had to redo the entire wings and much of the fuselage. I will be posting pics of the improved completed version over the weekend. |

I fixed another issue I had not addressed on this aircraft... That being the location of the contrails off the wingtips. Obviously their current location would be a problem if flying the aircraft with the wings swept forward because the wingtips would not be in the same location so the wingtip contrails would just hang out in space away from the wing tips and look ridiclous. So... I decided to move them inwards to contrail off the wing fences instead. That part of the shape never changes position! So it solved the issue and actually looks pretty good with either the wings swept back or swept forward... I will get to work on adding more details to the skins such as the nose probes, the various bulges and other wing fences and additional warning notices. Plus ECM antennas on the tail... |

FA was certainly missing this ubiquitous aircraft. Nice work Hotshot! Won't be long before someone makes a "Gulf of Sidra incident" mission! |

Definitely an important plane to have been missing from FA. I had forgotten how awkward this aircraft's wing looks in the forward position, and you have captured the look well |

FAF will be fully importable when released so any one can make their own skins to use in FA so that these kinds of missions can indeed be built and have the proper markings because I did away with that cheeze aupto roundel that FA has, as it doesnt look real. The roundels are now part of the skin... |

Goog Lord, CAG Hotshot, I have been waiting for this one since I discovered the The Fighters Anthology Resource Center. It is clearly a "Must be" for FA, anf yours is simply SPLENDID!! Thanks for having shaped it! |

I finished modifying my original Su-17 shape to fix some issues and improve the skin and its "depth" and positioning layout... Plus I didnt even realize this, but I never even skined the lower fuselage after I finished the original shape! I have that fixed now... Here is is, and finally in 1024 x 768 now that I have also fixed the HUD issue that kept me from flying that resolution temporarily... I have improved the skin in many locations, as well as added additional detailing. I also fixed the nose gear (though I might work on it a bit more) and eliminated the tiny nose wheel tires... Also I added the extra intake doors to the nose as well as enhanced the engine starter smoke exhaust grill in front of teh main gear. Now it serves a dual purpose of extra detailing as well as simulating a false canopy on the bottom fuselage making it just that much harder to determine whein way the aircraft is turning against you in a fight! Also added hard points t the wings and fuselage as well as shadowing... Plus added main gear detail to the lower wings... I still need to do some additional work and add the nose probes and correct some remaining skin layout issues, but otherwise this version is completed and nwow I can begin work on the cammo versions... |

Oh that is so cool. Su-17s are a pretty rugged aircraft I wouldn't mind using them for COIN so long as they have a turbofan. |

Its mainly powered by the AL-21F-3 engine, which is an axial flow turbojet, not a turbofan... |

CAG Hotshot wrote: Its mainly powered by the AL-21F-3 engine, which is an axial flow turbojet, not a turbofan... Indeed this is why I want the turbofan. A proposed upgrade by French had a number of features including a turbofan, HOTAS, and all sorts of other goodies. |
