Here are the latest screenshots for the FAF MiG-19... It still have the default FA skin on it so I don't generate any skin file related issues while building the shape... (Been there, Done that and its No Fun At All! ) PS - I think I have figured our a way to add some cannons to the wing roots. That will be in the next update along with the shorter nose! Here is the shape so far... It has the longer nose for the tracking radar. Still have a lot of work to do! With afterburners running... Landing Gear Locations Are Perfect. Hard break coming into land... |

Had a Pallet Failure on the MiG-19 Skin and Shape and had to revert to an older version to get around the problem so I lost a few weeks worth of work. This is where it stands right now with the Silver Skin... The far shapes still must be re-edited. And the Skin finalized as well as a few panels need their visibility angles corrected... But I was lucky to have this far a backup to recover to because the error crept in weeks ago and I did not notice it... |

It'll be even prettier when it gets an AIM-9E up its arse from a pursuing F-4D -- jus sayin' |

So long as it isn't a "B" I'm game! I put the D/E/H as the B/M/X in my LIB. Adding now the B for some F-4C pain. |

From what I have read, many pilots preferred the AIM-9B over the -9E. The Air Force's AIM-9E supposedly had many problems when it first came out. On the other hand, the Navy's AIM-9D was quite successful. However, you can feel some AIM-9B pain in my Yankee Station 1964 and Rolling Thunder campaigns. |

The USAF was stupid for being too into its ego and not conceding that the Navy missiles were simply better. The AIM-9E was really just an AIM-9B with a different seeker and I imagine that seeker did have issues because it was pretty "new fangled" though I didn't hear the same for the AIM-9J. Now the AIM-9D introduced a much better rocket motor (MUCH BETTER) and a better seeker and truly helped. By the way do you have the F-8 Tac Manual? I downloaded it from somewhere else the other night and it has some good info on the AIM-9B/D in it. Can send if want, I know you have all those flight manuals. |

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ql4jwf200gook ... a.pdf?dl=0 There's some interesting stuff in (Chapter 6?) about employment of the AIM-9B/D including the MINIMUM RANGE (god that's so hard to find). |

Getting back on topic... I just figured out how to alter Gouraud Shading and Light Source Shading on shapes while working on this MiG-19... I have never understood that part of the shape file before... You can alter a color for a polygon but if the shading isn't also altered then the polygon will not change color if the Gouraud Shading and Light Source Shading are turned on under graphics in the game... The sick puppy shape color editor does this (sometimes) for shapes when you color them, but the older original version does not. The MiG-19 shape is derived from the Q5.SH and will not display in the newer version so it could not alter individual polygon colors or its shading unless all of that color TYPE were altered. You could not change shades of the color ... (all greys are all greys you cant light or darken them in that version) but now I can alter them individually by changing other sections of the shape file manually along with that polygon color so that it displays the proper color when shading is turned on. This is a big thing... It wasnt able to be done before... Kind of glad now the original MiG-19 shape corrupted or I never would have learned this... |
