I'm using Jasc Paint Shop Pro 7.0, and I keep getting a white backgound. Also the paintbrush makes nice anti-aliasing effects and the bucket works when color depth is increased to 24 bit or whatever, but that anti-aliasing is lost when the pallette is reduced again. What is the exact procedure for preserving the transparency of pallette color #255, and is there a way to keep the anti-aliasing effect when depth is reduced? I also have Photoshop 7.0.

what I do is:

I edit the texture in any way I want. after that I select all the to be transparent areas with the wand (?) tool (or whichever other way you can use to select them).
Next I invert the selection and copy it.
FInally I open the original texture and paste the edited parts into it (without the transparent parts of course, thats why I did this procedure). When I save it it shows transparency wherever there was any in the orignal texture if it hasnt been overwritten with a color from the modified texture.

Do you have Windows XP? Because then you can't make it transparent at all.

Yep, I'm using Windows XP now on a NTFS format. So it generally works for Toolkit stuff, but I've noticed a few quirky things. This transparency problem sucks, but I'll try the method Tank describes.

gosh I guess I should write a tutorial on PSP7 or something LOL. Have you been trying the technique by choosing colors/edit pallette then double cliking the last (lower right corner)color box (it looks white at first) and in the ensuing box sliding the blue color bar ALL the way to the left so the 3 colors are top to bottom 252 252 0 ? Then when you "ok" out, the transparent colors will be a bright yellowish color. Does that not work in XP? Also it's MUCH easier if you have PSP integrated right into the TK.

My method works on XP, but Kap's way is much more professional, I wish I could try it, but I dont have much knowledge on how to edit palettes and stuff like that.

I got PSP 7 working according to Kaptor's procedure. Thanks for the help, but I wish the selection box was more accurate in PSP. :(

Usually when I draw a box, the actual dotted line forms one pixel inside of where I had the mouse cursor. This occurs on either the horizontal or vertical side, or sometimes both. The corner where I ended the box sometimes has an inaccuracy as well.

Not much help on this string, but I use Ulead PhotoImpact 6.0. Very close to Photo shop, and allot less expensive.

I'm not aware of anything Photoshop does that PSP doesnt do for like $500 less, so I'm pretty happy with it.
