MiG-21F Fishbed-Cs have a fresh new look over the skies in North Vietnam... http://www28.brinkster.com/fanthology/fatextures.html Alright here is my latest almost complete project I've thrown together based on a Falcon 4 skin by swissflight. I have only one problem and that is finding a dark grey colour for the MiG's shape that loads without creating a messed up gradient once light source shading is turned on. In the meantime enjoy the preview, if anyone knows which dark greys do/don't work for sure tell me please because until then I'll be going through each dark grey that seems possible. Later Jimbo |

Jimbo, you can "fix" the rainbow problem by coloring all those parts of the PIC file, I had to do that with my camo MiG-21. http://publish.hometown.aol.com/kaptors/images/mig21.jpg IIRC if it's round(like a fusalage) it will rainbow if you use more than 1 color. HEY I like that "airbrush" look of your 21 skin, good job! |

Doing good just recommend you kill the NVAF markings and put bottom camo...good template would be the MiG-21s from JUSAF! |

Beautiful, IMO that one is your best skin. I like it better than the Alpha. |

Much thanks Kap, I removed the annoying gradient problem. And for future help I'll explain exactly how I did it. First off, the problem with the 21 is how it has a problem with its skin as it mirrors a piece of the top and bottom of the front. This is problem because basically what this means is you can't skin this one small area if it doesn't match on both the top and bottom. So if ur ever in that position do what I did and that is edit that little problem area in airbrush to colour it to match the undercarriage colour. I know this won't make much sense if you haven't dealt with this bird but hopefully this helps. Now to get just this area painted in airbrush as apposed to doing the whole fuselage of the plane one colour you can't do that if you have the two tones on top and bottom like mine so you have to just colour the bottom problem area and a good amount of the pieces around it so you "box it in" this is what removed the rainbowing for me. If you want my shape and skin in a lib file it is open for everyone and Cent the bottom was already textured correctly, there shouldn't be camo on the bottom of that plane unless it is flying upside down lol. Thanks everyone... I'll get another photo to show the bottom too Jimbo |

Sounds like you followed my advice pretty well on how to avoid the rainbow effects on the visible polygon. Do you have a new screenshot of the MiG-21 in top end graphics now? |

6 New Screenshots added tried to make them "interesting" heh... http://www28.brinkster.com/fanthology/fatextures.html In conclusion this skin was a complete success and I finished it in only a few days, as for now I'm going to finish this blue/grey MiG-29 skin hopefully soon too. If anyone can find the MiG-29 in Jane's USAF that would be great too for the "Euro Green" camo especially since I like it and its detail better than the almost as nice one from Falcon 4 CAG used in FA Futures (www.VNFAWING.com) lol plug. Later all let's keep the good texturing coming it is the one thing custom libraries lack too much and if you want any of my skins just ask I'm always willing to share and if you have any requests throw em over here. A simple way to really improve the detailing on that skin would be to add afterburner can details, plus doesnt the MiG-21 shape also use two seperate engine details(IIRC)? One for burner and one without. It might be a good way to make the afterburner really tie in. That afterburner effect of yours is excellent! and the dark grey cockpit would really finish off this skin!. As far as doing a multicolored MiG-29, you will most likely run into coloring problems with the shape in the color editor as it is unstable after recoloring in the editor and crashes out. |
