Quote: It is amazing, how long we have stood by an aging sim made in 1996/97. It was a fun trip but our world is dying, slowly but surely. It was fun while it lasted. Many have moved on to newer sims, some have quit and retired, while others just disapeared into the blue sky. Ah to all thouse simmers who have tested our libs and seen our visions. And to thouse who have never quite got how our chosen shape looks anything like the aircraft in question, it was fun as our minds ran whild. I feel this is the proper place to plant our memorial plack, in the place where it all began on September 29, 1999 at 3:37 PM by John K. Peterson. JK, I solute you. I have posted this on the old board as a response to the first ever message (Test by JK) made on September 29th 1999. We have lived long my friends. |

Indeed. But this stretches back further than that single date. JK took over for PMok & the 257th as their board closed with Inside the Web. IIRC that board ran for 3 years. It's been a long while guys and 6 years so we're an old bunch...though if there was a stronger online community I think that this game could live longer. |

I personally believe the FA community is stronger now then it has been in years. I personally have recorded over 800 downloads of FA Futures patches with continual usage everyday on the last version. THe next version, with its revolutionary changes, will spike this total to well over 1000... THis to mea, means there is still a future for FA, especially once FA-2 is rolled out... (*hint* maybe next year 2nd quarter... who knows, maybe even in a store....) CAG out... |

800 huh? Pretty good number Cag. Musta been hell on bandwith though LOL!!! Soon I'm going to learn PHP and get my own space at ipowerweb.com and then I hope to have some cool counter things going on there. I'll have 500MB so if you need a mirror host let me know. |

Thanks for the kind words BT. This board was kind of a late arrival to the scene, as Centurian says there was P.Mok's board which was very popular, and there was the old AOL FA ladder and boards which used to be very popular. It seems like long ago all the really old players were on AOL, P.Mok and Vark111 may have been but I know for a fact that David Mashiso (sp) creator of the toolkits had an AOL account. Also the FARC was originally hosted on AOL and looked like this: http://www.angelfire.com/ab6/jkpete106/historic.html Zephyr |

You're thinking of Migslayer and Wedge's FARC (http://durandal.virtualave.net/farc/). Both that site and this were developed seperately and I never knew of the other FARC until some time after I had been on Geocities, probably when I first learned of IAF lib. Zephyr |

It went like this: P.Mok 257th (same board but dif. ownership) FARC (Network54) FARC (Boardnation) ZephyrNet (Here) That's the evolution of the community boards to FA. I don't recall anything pre-PMok and I remember that from USNF '97 days...err now I feel old. |

WOW! Nice histroy lesson guys! I think the biggest contributor to the ongoing life of FA is Zephyr and his FARC/ZephyrNet... I am hoping that VNFAWING will also help contribute to this.. So that once FA-2 is ready to go, there will be a solid base of interested simmers willing to plunk down a few bucks for a fantastic modern version of FA! |
