Hi, Does anyone have any ideas on how to make a STOBAR aircraft carrier in FA, like the Adm Kuzetsnov, wheer the plane is held back by a mechanism, while it throttles upto fill power, and then takes off, thus reducing the takeoff run? What can I do? Will setting the ground brakes on the MiG 29K, Su25UTG and the Su33 to a high value, work? Thanks. |

Super strong brakes will work, but then the aircraft will have kind of a second arrestor hook capability if it just turns on brakes. 255 might be the maximum value for the box in the toolkit but you might be able to make it something higher by directly editing the PT file. But the catapult method already in FA might be better if you could get rid of the smoke effects. Zephyr |

If you increase the amount of brake necessary to simulate this hold back in FA, then the AI will be unable to take off... Kap found this out with his helos and their brake settings of 32767... |

I can appreciate looking for new stuff, but you'd never get the AI to do it. I say just line up and blast off, I doubt they spend much if ANY time locked down with the AB lit, so brakes to hold back just the mil power could be doable. |

Have you experimented with this level of braking? |

ok here's what I got in testing. This is for an SU-30, 66,000lb T/O weight, 34,714 mil thrust, 57,220 AB thrust and with a brake setting of 250 in TK set brakes, advance to full mil power, observe no movement for several seconds, then release brakes and full AB thrust. T/O at 140kts (it's a carrier plane) in 2,456 ft BUT when you land with brakes on it stops in 1071ft which is a bit short for a 60,000lb plane. |

so you are talking AI or human use here? |

oh human 100% I'm quite sure the AI would just takeoff, but I'll test it anyway. |

rgr that and I tend to fully agree... I was hoping it was human, however does it hold you inplace until you are at 100% throttle? What I want to do is have the brakes hold the aircraft until it is at 100% engine throttle then you relase the brakes and the aircraft surges forward, just like the hold back blocks on the carrier... |

tested the AI this afternoon. under AI control it just blasts off like we figured. under user control you can set the brakes and go to FULL mil power 100% for at least 10 seconds probly with no movement at all(except for a little surge at the begining kinda like it's straining against the brakes) then hit the AB and release the brakes. I havent seen video of a STOBAR launch but I cant believe they are held back long if at all under full AB. |
