would you like to fly a plane with a LASER RADAR? Tough you cant lol, but MY planes have been using LASER RADAR while under AI control the whole time!! THAT'S why the AI planes have been finding me SOOOO easily in the missions despite my doppler RADAR mods .

So after editing litteraly hundreds of files tonight ( I think around 350) I guess I have it worked out.

The base of the problem is that as you know in order to have ships and vehicles engage at more than a short distance away you have to give them a long range sensor different than the sensors of the weapons you load onto the vehicle or ship. I used a LASER with a 350 mile range, but I ALSO used that same LASER as the built in LASER dez pod for planes (doh!!) so the planes were using the LASER as the primary sensor to detect and cue the weps, and could find you where-ever you were, only the more or less pure air to air planes with no LASER on board didnt have this problem. Anyway hopefully it is all fixxed now and I thought I would pass this on.

Yikes! I better check on this! I may have fallen into the same trap!

I have a 100 mile laser that I use for ground vehicles (SU24L) and it may have ended up in some of the aircraft!

Thanks AGAIN for the heads up Kap!

CAG out...

good news is that passive RADAR pods dont cause any trouble like this (they SHOULDENT have, but ya never know lol ).

the easy fixx for the laser radars is open the seeker file and enter 200(less may work , but I didnt bother since this fixxed it and didnt cause other trouble) into the "all aspect" box, aparently this only applies to planes as the AI had no trouble attacking ground targets. Also if you try to LAZE an aircraft on the ground (or in the air) you wont get the tone or dez box BUT it WILL guide anyway, so you CAN use them for airport attack type missions.

With this mod I was able to us IR in an F-15E and sneak up into the tailpipe of my F-16CJs which have the HTS pod and LASER dez, and a pretty good RADAR, they didnt find me till I got within viz range!!! mwuahahaha.

2 other things

Despite all the warnings, I found having jammers going didnt alert the enemy AI at all, no response.

And, LASER weapons range? what LASER weapons range? (this probly works for all semi-active missles) if a target is out of range of your weapon, lock onto something closer, fire the weapon then switch back to the original target. The LASER weapon will guide onto it anyway right up untill it runs out of "exist time" .

HEY since I NOW have a totaly different laser for my vehicles I DO NOT KNOW how this will affect vehicle and ships detecting and engaging aircraft!!!! I'll check that out soon.

ok as you would expect, this kills a ship or vehicles ability to engage planes, so you need a seperate long range LASER for vehicles, but at leaste with those settings the planes cant use it as radar.

Wouldnt just a very short range laser on the aircraft (which is reality anyway) solve this issue entirely? Then the aircraft would be within visible distance of the bandit anyway, so it wouldnt matter what settings were on teh radar. ANd anything past this short range would default to the radar since it would be beyond the tracking range of the laser...
