Post subject:  Huge problem with FA Future lib (arrgghh!!! CTD!!!)

I have similar problem centurian had. I recently downloaded your new FA Future lib while I was excited. I installed them proper way like old FA Future, (carefully look over everything on readme) and it ran game so smoothy. But when I went to quick mission or single mission, then suddenly it crashed to desktop. I tried both non-campaign and campaign shortcut exe. but still got the same result! I redownloaded and install again, but still CTD!

I have window XP home editor
Pentium 4 2.53 Ghz motherboard
nVIDIA GeForce 4 MX 420 with 64 MB (must update soon due to crappy video card... (SIGH!)... Hopefully to get 512 MB or 256MB of nVIDIA GeForce 4 FX 5600 or 5900)
512 MB of RAM
and goes on

Centurian and I were discussing these similar problem we had, and he said it could be due to XP issue. XP are always b*$ch on 3rd party lib of Fighter Anthology. I'm sure you will fix these problem as quickly as soon. But at the same time, I hope you're not sick and hope you feel better as soon as possible. And become healthy as horse! ;)

It's probably just a problem with the LIB not accepting XP. Either way you can still fly the campaigns so when it comes out we'll all be in luck :)

<S> All,
I'm thinking it MUST be an XP issue cause I'm running W98SE and had no problem at all with either exe file or with the Quick Mission. Both worked great. And BTW CAG - Frellin' Awesome Job!!!

I dont know why its casueing the CTDs, except that it may be a problem relating to the compresion factor on the ZIP and how it relates to XP.

I am in the process of uploading a new zip file that I am hoping will solve these issues. I will let you know when the new version is available.

PLEASE be certain to delete your temporary files or you will not recieve the new version, your system will most likely simply give you the zip from your previous download that it has in temp files...

New version uploaded...

Hopefully it will work out alright...

Please give it a try and let me know...

http://vnfawing.com/fafutures/downloads ... a-2003.zip (has instructions files)

http://vnfawing.com/fafutures/downloads ... -2003A.zip (without instructions, if you already downloaded previously)

If you run into errors still, please try other zip file(the other one then what you have chosen from the above list) as the no instructions zip was built on a 98 machine and the instructions zip was built on a XP system...

Please let me know if either of these helps..

Post subject:  Update!

I have taken the first steps and FINALLY have been able to duplicate the erros on my XP test system...

I think I have tracked in what is causing the error with the latest version of Futures... I think one or two of the libs have to many files in them and
it exceeds the file number buffer per library as far as XP is concerned...

I will redo the libraries tonight and 'spread the load' out to the smaller libraries and hopefully this will solve the issue...

Well, "don't go counting your chickens before they hatch"! This is only a hypothesis right now, it still remains to be proven tonight...

XP Issues Solved! (at least on my test system!)...

Looks like my hypothese was correct. You can not exceed a certain number of the same types of files within a library. I moved some of the files to the blank FA_4C.lib and FA_7.lib and now its fully XP compatible...

It will be available at the http://VNFAWING.com website under the 'hot download' links in the left side menu bar. There are now two versions... Win 98 version and Win XP version... seems what XP doesnt like, 98 thrives on...

The new libraries, along with an improved version of Airbase Templates, will be available at 10:00 hrs CST today. That is roughly 37 minutes from now. Do NOT attempt to download them prior to this time, they will be unavailable (I am in the process of uplaoding them now)...

Enjoy!

DAMN XP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was premature with my XP solution statements... seems XP doesnt like the Korean Map and now I will have to determine why...

Hopefully tongiht I will solve this issue. I will keep everyone up to date...

What file system are you using with XP FAT32 or NTFS? Keep in mind XP was derived from NT code so there are a number of programs that may not work with XP due to differing drivers.

Another thing I forgot to mention with XP you can create a dual boot system and add Win 98 or ME. I have a number of friends who use dual boot OSes because XP can't run some of their games.
