I've been reading and I see that there was also an Su-27P Flanker-B meant for air defense inside Russia. It was operated by the PVO. Does anyone know of any differences between the standard Su-27 and the Su-27P?

IIRC, the -P vrsion is the 2 seater modified from a Su 27 UB, for AD.

This may, indeed, be the original RuAF designation for the long range Interceptor version of the Su-27, designated Su-30 by Sukoi... Only between 5 and 10 built. Originally designed to replace the MiG-31...

In service strictly as an escort for Mainstay AWACs and Midas Tankers,

Also used as a test vehicle by Sukoi for multiple Su-30 export versions...

CAG out...

So basically the Su-27P is the prototype of the original Su-30, which was essentially a two-seat Su-27 with minor modifications, though nothing significant. The Su-30M added R-77 capability and other such things.

Generally, yes, I believe so, but you can never be fully certain because of all the disinformation given out by Sukoi on what versions of the Flanker actually exist and what they can really do...

Like I said,

a 2 seater Su 27 UB with minor mods, and also IIRC called the Su 27 PU and the Su 30 K, the very first Suchois with the IAF.

Much to new for NATO... The initial SU-30 deliveries were made to the RuAF after 1989...

You will only see the basic Flanker in NATO...
