Even though it is older and less maneuverable, my bet on a dogfight is still the F-14.

The chances of a MiG-29 dodging 6 Phoenix missiles from outside of its own range, then surviving a 50:50 dogfight are relatively slim.

Now if Maverick and Goose are flying the F-14, then there is no contest.

Hahahahah "Step into the Danger Zone"!!!!!!! hahahaha

Take my breath away.....

You never close your eyes anymore when I kiss your lips..

Great Movie... the reason for my crush on Fighter planes... indeed something in my heart tells me that the F-14 with Mav and Goose is unbeatable! Great Propaganda.. I think that it raised US Navy´s recruiting a lot in 1984 right? Who here doesn´t love this film?
and look I am really pissed with the US but I was a kid when I watched this movie so it really took my heart!

starting from BVR the F-14 would probobly win, but the phoenix is NOT a world beater, it can be defeated. The F-14s RADAR is not all that awsome either, POWERFUL yes but not impossible to evade. I've seen reports of F/A-18s slipping past them and getting behind Tomcat. The F-14s RADAR is complicated and takes a lot of work to get a solution and a shot fired from what I understand, real life aint the movies.

Real life is FA! And Tom Cruise is in it baby! The F-14 is New York's gift to the USN. And NY is God's gift to the world so the F-14 is indirectly a gift from god.

Yeah well I never said Nixon was thinking clearly during those last few months and year of his term in office. At least Iran used them to shoot down Iraqi warplanes. I find it quite ironic and amusing that the F-14 was only exported to Iran and only because of special relations to the Shah whereas the F/A-18 was exported to a lot more, albeit friendly, countries though at the time Iran was friendly.

All I can say is, ask one of the Iraqi Mig-29 Jockies.
I know that's a little one sided with all the support and networking we have in a theatre of operations .... but that's life.
And as far as any "what ifs", I'm sure that if one of them piedgon-toe'd Russians crosses the line we got a couple guy's just itchin' to try out them helmet sights.

I would, but no USN F-14 was ever in a WVR battle with a MiG-29...

Unfortunately the F-14 isnt slated to be updated with the AIM-9X/ Helmut HUD combination and will always be at a major disadvantage when going against such weapons systems.

Als0 the F-14 gives its energy level away to the opposing fighter by the angle of the wingsweep... The enemy pilot will always know when the Tomcat is at a low energy state by the forward swept wings and can use this information to go into the vertical to defeat the Tomcat, which itself can only use the vertical to battle an angles fighter such as the Fulcrum (ala F-4 vs Mig-21)...

To think otherwise is to attempt to defy the laws of physics...

CAG out...
