Hey, this is my first post here, haven't played FA in about 4 years but after getting out of school i'm looking to catch up on whats been going on. I wish this forum was around a long time ago when i was into creating missions and libs and stuff.

Anyway, the first thing i'm looking for was a recommendation on a new stick. I had an el cheapo one that worked fine, but i'm looking for an upgrade. There are plenty of sticks available on ebay, but will all of them work with FA? I was looking at few microsoft sticks and those wireless Logitech ones, not really sure how well each will perform. I run win xp pro, and I don't have a gameport, so that may narrow it down some. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

I recommend the Saitec X-45 seperates to anybody. They arnt real cheap (around $100 for the set) but I like mine a bunch and you wont get a decent two peice throttle/joystick for anything close to the price. It plugs into a USB port (only needs 1 to run both parts). I dont run XP so I cant help you there.

If you can get your hands on an old Sidewinder 3D Pro or Sidewinder Force Feedback, or anything Sidewinder in stick form then you're good to go!

yea, I used to have a sidewinder. That was pretty good.

But you can't compare it to the X-45. Im really happy with it. However it is complicated to get it to work in XP. Once it runs, though, it's sweet.

Compare? My 3D Pro Sidewinder was made in 1996. It's 8 years later and the thing is still in tip-top condition. In addition man it works with every OS thus far. It even looks like a stick, not a futuristic deal. Throttle, rudder, HAT, trigger, thump, side buttons, four more, etc. Oh man its heaven!

But does the Sidewinder have a USB connector? The gentleman above says he doesnt have a game port...

I agree with Kap, like Saitec for a new stick, though my original thrustmaster stick and throttle body are still going strong...

CAG out...

Newer Sidewinders do. And wouldn't they have a adapter from game port to usb?

The request was about en-expensive sticks.
But before I get to that I gotta toot my horn about my stuff to.

I personally use a CH Products HOTAS.
It will last forever ..... period.

on topic
My Stic experience :
I had a thurstmaster HOTAS set-up...... no comment.

Had a logitec wimgman pro, or something ..... KILLER $40 stic.

Had a MicroSoft Sidewinder (I think) force-feed back .... KILLER stic.
Supported by everything and easiest to set up of all em,
I agree with CENT in recommending a MicroSoft Stic.

But to be honest CAG has a good point, gameport or USB ???

recommendation
Old used gameport stuff, look for a Microsoft sidewinder.
New USB stuff, check out what Logitec has in your price range.
If price is of no concern ... CH Products, for stics that last a lifetime.

One last shameless plug

Give me CH Products ....
.... Or give me nothing

Your right.
And he doesn't have a gameport either.
So much for the old stuff.

You would think so, but I have never seen one.

I'm not really sure what I'm looking for yet in terms of price. Right now FA is the only game I would use the stick with, but if I get hooked again and decide to start buying more games, I may decide to go for a nice one, but for right now I think I might go for whatever I can find on ebay. Thanks for all your responses
