Dudes do you see this??? Insane. Imagine if this were real, well it is a real thing but is it a real project? Man this would still be TS if it work so I don't think it is.

Its called Hollywood, like the 'MiG-28s' of Topgun...

lol I would like to see that big transparent canopy survive Mach 4 flight! Much less the pilot, who is not in a pressure suit, when mach 4 is only achievable at 100000 ft plus....

CAG out...

I'm suprised you guys dont recognize that plane or at least it's wing idea.
CAG you talking about the canopy surviving the pressure of moving through the atmosphere or the temps, cause the temps can be dealt with fairly easily.

Not in an all transparent Canopy with a pilot not in a pressure suit, which means no flight at high altitude...

There is no bird flying or designed with a all transparent canopy flying at those speeds. The friction heat at Mach 4 would wide that canopy out. Thus the SR-71 and the X-15 had very small canopies made with small windshield sections...

Even the Shuttle has set sections of 'glass' into a cockpit frame, though much bigger, but its friction heat is taken on the underside of the aircraft and the nose and wind leading edges, verses on the on the cockpit, since it does not do horizontal flight at those high speeds like the aircraft do...

My question is why did GS put it on their site.

And ya never know Cag. Could be a lot of Alien Technology in it. I mean X-Files stuff ;)

if the canopy were 2 layers with liquid methane pumped between the layers it would stand a LOT of heat.

I used to work as a model maker / wind tunnel tech and on the production floor to.
CAG has got ya.
The Mach 4+ manned birds, the ones that approch that speed in design at least are to be fed information into a "blind" cockpit via displays.

??? I'm talkin theoreticle here, not de-facto with regards to the canopy.

Anyway this is the wing tech on that old "Switchblade" patent from North/Grumm as I recall, the front end is all differant but the forward sweep VG wing comes from that patent.

Liquid Methane? You ever try to see through liquid methane and how much pressure would you have to have to overcome the acceleration and G forces to equally cool it? And how would it survive any type of strike?

Losing a canopy on an F-16 due to a strike is one thing, losing it on a Mach 4 aircraft is quite another...

Impractice and impossible...

Not unless they can determine transparent titanium or something of equal strength and durability...

LOL see through liquid methane? No I havent have you? LOL
How many Gs do you suppose it would pull at Mach 4 lol
A bird strike at 40,000ft is fairly rare, I would suppose at 100,000 that number would be even lower :-)

Without a pressure suit you wont be flying at even 40,000 ft regularly... Plus that virtual aircraft is a high performance fighter, with high G capable airframe when, I guess, its flying at lower speeds...

Also liquid methane isnt transparent, just to share some info! :)

I'm still using this in Nation-States as a light-recon aircraft :). Sort of a FAC. I'll give it a ventral and two side bays. It'll carry a pair of AIM-9X in the side bays and up to four missiles in the ventral bay for air to ground (or bombs) or four three-backs of Brimstones. Yeah I can feel the fury now!

Why would you use a stealth aircraft as a FAC? Makes no sense...

FACs are always close to enemy positions so it would defeat the purpose to be stealthful if you are within visible range to the enemy...
