I heard that earlier in the war guided 'smart' cluster bombs were used.

Does anyone have any info on these things?

probly talking about the WCMD(Wind Corrected Munition Dispenser) it's a cluster bomb body with steerable tail fins and an IMU(Inertial Measuerment Unit, kind of a crude nav system) the IMU senses the wind drift as the bomb falls and tries to correct for that. All that you really need for an area weapon like a cluster bomb. It lets them drop clusters from high altitude.

They might have been referring to the Senser Fuzed Weapon. Its a 1000 lb class bomb that opens up, deploying 10 parachute equipped dispensors. Each of these dispensors carries 4 "Skeet" IR-guided anti-tank munitions.

However what they DID mean by smart cluster weapons was the first combat use of the wind adjusted dispenser as Kap highlighted above.

Yes. Actually I have. Its called the well I am sure there was one of them I wasn't proud of...I wish we had more ground intel though. Damn Carter for taking out the people on the ground. Had we had that still 9.11 might have been avoiding.
